Humans are dumb. Anyway nobody will ever figure out the answer to this question it's beyond our finite grasp so shut the fuck up already.

>tfw when you realize most people are atheists or theists based on personal tempermant and not because they reasoned to their positions inferentially
Yes. That's the whole point of religion. Nothing went wrong there
>>
>>85156697
So you're saying atheism is a religion?
>>
>>85156656
It goes further than that, and yet it's very simple. The majority of people, atheist and theist, are simply pseudo-Epicureans - their worldview is simply 'Whatever is most pleasurable is good and true'. They might have different definitions of what pleasurable is, but its all the same. Good feelings = Truth.
For the atheist, hedonism and the rejection of God and dogmas feels good, therefore that's what's good and True.
For the theist, the comfort of God and prayer and all the rules and laws feels good, therefore that's what's good and True.

Very, very few people actually derive their worldview from studying/pondering/debating/etc, instead it's all what's intuitively closest to pleasure and good feelings.

Saying there is no skygod is a metaphysical claim, just like claiming otherwise is. Atheism isn't a religion because a religion implies an organised practise, just like theism on its own isn't a religion
>>
>>85156757
To add, it would have been more accurate if I had said belief instead of religion in my first post
>>
Anyway what I wanted to say is that putting some rules above all others by following the precepts of a belief system has nothing wrong about it in and of itself, which is why I have respect for believers even though I personally don't understand why you'd make those rules special

I hate abrahamics so much. Your entire bible should have been burn en masse as a book of ignorance after powered flight

this is a perfect example of >>85156739
no rational discussion, no coherence, no intelligence. just hysterics accompanied by a meme low-res infograph. if you ask this poster to show what books or lectures he values and what helped him derive his worldview from over the years, he couldn't. at best you'll get more meme infographs and emotion-based raving, because it feels 'good'.
99.99% of people are utterly worthless when it comes to getting quality opinions and ideas from, because this is how they operate, in all aspects.

4chan is the prime example of what OP is talking about. Very few people reason to their beliefs. Not just about God, about anything.
>>
>>85156887
I find it funny the people who most mock religion talking about sky daddies are also the most convinced of man made climate change and how we need to cut carbon emissions or the sea levels would rise
>>
>>85157101
It's simply a perfect demonstration of what OP was saying though. He's right. People adopt beliefs for many reasons and it's not necessarily through logical deductions that they do this. So many things influence anyone's belief, theist or atheist, conservative or liberal, pessimism or optimism, you name it, and more often than not emotions play a role in our beliefs. Our doxastic commitments as humans arise out of many places. Belief itself doesn't just constitute assent to propositions either, but also to specific attitudes and feelings we have about the world.

You brought it up, dumb human.

How do you know I'm human?

I cannot answer that question, please ask a different one.

True OP

I'm religious, and not culturally either but I'm willing to admit that without my cultural heritage I would not have been religious.

But spirituality does appeal to me, and I guess being outcast and denying oneself the pleasures of the flesh do align pretty well with each other, it gives you meaning where otherwise there would be pain.

Or, if your consciousness is higher than average, everything could be meaningless, even stuff like casual sex or even a good relationship... at that point I don't even know how one would go about the pain and meaninglessness of everything without some cope like religion.

The thing is, there is the esoteric and exoteric aspect of religion and it's present everywhere. You have spiritual Christianity and just feel-good follow the rules die for your king type of Christianity. You have breathwork Taoism where you just meditate emptily, and you have the Taoism where you try to get closer to The One and develop under the spiritual guidance of the "Dao". Which version you believe in changes your approach to how you engage with the respective meditations.

I think a lot of richfags or elite people also engage with mysticism, even if their flavour is dark and self-serving like child abuse or Satanic rituals. It gives them meaning and the rituals symbolizes their lifestyle; fucking others over for power.

So I don't think religion is cope, but I do agree with the idea that you have to be predisposed for this stuff. One such requirement I think is introversion and above average awareness/interospective ability etc. It just inclines you more towards this stuff.

At least it's a better cope than lamenting how you can't have casual sex or relationships and posting about it everyday while looking at coombait. And the meditations really do help me.

Good for you. Glad new atheism is dead. It was unbelievably cringe and intellectually shallow.
>>
>>85156656
There's zero evidence for the existence of a deity, therefore I don't believe in them. I'll gladly change my view if irrefutable evidence is presented. Same goes for ghosts, angels, ghouls, vampires, bigfoot, werewolves, demons, etc.
>>
>>85159385
There are people that claim vampires and werewolves etc. are metaphors for evil/mentally ill people.

Vampires for narcissists/Jews, werewolves for psychos if I remember correctly. Ancient people were used to thinking symbolically so they could process this in an intuitive way while for us it sounds like a fairytale.
>>
>>85159385
Define evidence. Many religious people would disagree with you.

You sound retarded. Read pic rel if you want to stop sounding retarded.
