I fear the chasm between my mother and I is far too great, and it will never be truly bridged in a meaningful, lasting way. The cracks began around age 10 (for me, obvs), but the fissures really came in during my teen-years. Now, at 37, after witnessing her THIRD divorce and her moving cross-country and demonstrating that she doesn't give a singular fuck if she never physically sees me again, I'm pretty sure it's Joever. She'll die, never having admit to her mistakes, nor truly listening to me and my thoughts/feelings. I failed her, failed my (now former) step-father, failed the country, ultimately failed myself, etc. Maybe next life, I guess.

No. Some people aren't fit to be parents. It could be because they're weak, foolish, immature, or just plain evil. Getting knocked up and giving birth to a child doesn't entitle you to that child's unyielding love. No amount of vain showings of affection (more often than not far after the moment of no return occurs) can replace true love. Resentment and hate do not come out of nowhere. They may not be logical, but the don't exist without a source. Really do some soul searching and remember your past. Whatever conclusion you reach afterwards is up to you.
