Is it over? Like, is anything on a global scale ever going to get better? It feels like 2016 was the last year where things were half-reasonable and now we just live in a tech billionaire cyberpunk post-truth hyper-capitalism social media podcast dimension.

I still have ability to scale my personal life improvement so for me it can get better

>I don't have job or near enough money
With this I can improve my life in several aspects

Then you will have to offset the current impending doom and how quick things enshittify compared to how much money I need to escape further

Relatively I'm still improving
Long term? We will see

yeah the world has been on a sharp decline for numerous reasons. downscaling my expectations for what my life will be has been an improvement. i will have a family and maybe 1 or 2 friends but that is all, i'm content with that.

That post-truth social media dimension is going to get worse with AI continually scrapping itself for data and hallucinating. It'll be used, already is really, as a new better propaganda machine too. Economically what I think is going to happen is that countries are going to focus on self-sufficiency and the global market will weaken. This will make life worse for everyone in the short term, country short term though so like 30 years, but in the long run it's an improvement.

Every half decade or so we hit an inflection point where things are noticeably worse than before. I remember 2003 being the last good year online before AOL ruined everything, then 2009 was the last good year before social media ruined everything, then 2016 was the last good year before politics ruined everything. I think it will take some time before we recognize when the latest shift occurred, probably something covid/tiktok related.

From my perspective we have 2001 with 9/11 causing bullshit like the patriot act and america getting caught in the slog of the middle east. 2003-2004ish when the internet population started rapidly increasing and facebook started.

2007 with the first smartphone and the subsequent explosion of social media. 2008 with the housing crash. Early 2010s was when school shooting "news" (fear mongering) really kicked off.

2014-2016 is the beginning of the trump and social media retardation era which we are still in. Then 2020 with the super retard era of covid and inflation which we are also still in. Now since like 2023-2024 we've been in the AI enshitifying the internet era.

objectively speaking the world will *likely* continue its death spiral in varying degrees of momentum depending on where you live. to what extend that affects differs. example: if you managed to escape the permanent underclass before all the shortcuts to financial success got giga nerfed, you might be all set. but for most of us its permanent underclass forever regardless of how smart and well educated we are

Anecdotally everyone I know in real life (except for me) seems to be doing fine.

the white pill is the most brutal
everything is more or less fine
we are weird and like being overdramatic about it

It was a very bitter pill to swallow suddenly seeing all my friends get good jobs and stable relationships and looking at houses and shit. Like I'm happy for them but I thought we were all struggling. Turns out it was only me. They were all just larping when doing the whole "I'll never afford a home" thing
