i have been an avatar fag for a while. and i liked the first two movies. james always said he had a grand vision, and avatar4 5 and 6 were going to happen.

so can someone explain why avatar 3 was exactly the same as avatar 2? he clearly has no vision at all. why even make anything after avatar 1. that movie had a perfect ending. now we have this weird franchise that has no point

I believe 2 and 3 were meant to be one film, thats why they felt so similar. The contrast between one and two was noticeably big. That same contrast, I believe, was gonna be felt and implemented in the sequel when they took the story into outer space

so forest, to ocean, into outer space, and then to earth

I think that was the original plan, but Jim wanted to include everything from part two, so he split it into two films, and I believe thats where the mistake came in according to what people are saying. The noticeable contrast between 2 and 3 wasnt there even though there was nothing wrong with 3

how about a total reboot

>reboot

Absolutely NOT

To do that is to admit failure annd you dont wanna do that. So instead of redoing the whole thing with audience notes in mind, you wanna continue moving FORWARD within the world already created. That can mean new characters, new story lines, and new challenges etc that propels the franchise forward. If I was in charge, I would NEVER go back, because to do so, means you fucked up, and everything youve done before no longer matters. Thats such a waste, and not only that, but its saying everyone who worked on the previous three films did it for nothing because ultimately those films accumulated to nothing.

Dont do that. You want to acknowledge the three past films going forward. We can always go back, and tell the story of Jake, Neytiri, and their family through snippets and have it connect with the current storyline

What a nothingburger of a series. It came and went. It came back, and now it's gone and I felt nothing. It really has to be studied how a franchise grossing this much money had ZERO cultural impact, and no I'm not one of those people who think
>but it has no good maymays
means it has no impact, I meant fucking NO ONE talks about it. No cares. You want to talk about impact? Try Star Wars. Try LOTR. Try the fucking Terminator for as dumb as its plot was. People still make Skynet comparisons, especially with today's increasing technological advances

2 and 3 are way too fucking long for the non-story they tell. Sure, they look good but I don't give a fuck about the characters and sergeant avatar that keeps kidnapping them.

There's not enough substance to sit through all that junk. 45 minutes of trying to fit-in with the water avatar community? Holy fuck, I'd rather watch the Andy Warhol footage of NYC.

>cultural impact

I dont believe a single director that goes out and make their movie have that in mind. Cultural impact is decided by the audience, and the audience has decided that avatar doesnt really have it other then an introduction to the navi.

Also, cultural impact upon itself really boils down to just a few things. Terminator for example only has TWO elements that made the franchise a zeitgeist upon the world - and those two elements are: the word skynet and the metal skeleton. Thats it. And if you wanna throw in the line, ill be back, thats understandable.

but as far avatar goes, for me, the cultural impact is watching the movie play out on the biggest screen you can

THATS its cultural impact
>>
I do expect the franchise and the budget to be given to me

Andy Warhol and Picasso are similar in a way that their artwork interrupted what was modern art at their current time. And to your case, yeah, Andy Warhol is boring as hell
>>

so much money for no cultural impact
>Still likes 1 and 2
