Moreover, Americans usually report their income before taxes and any additional deductions, the highest number imaginable, whereas Europeans often report take-home or at least post-deductions income. So when a burger says they are making 100k, their clean take-home pay is likely around 70k. They still have better wages, but cost of living is also often higher and the real "life I can afford with X job" gap isn't crazy high.
