Have videogames dumbed down since the 90s and 2000s? It seems like a lot of text and statistic rich strategy games have died out in favour of hack and slash and shooter games.
national IQ is dropping due to the decline in white birth rates and migration of BIPOCs
No, the most popular games in the 90s were Tony Hawk, John Madden, and Gran Turismo. You didn't have to read a god damned word in any of them. You can always get a strategy game with 100 hours of lore if you want one, they're just niche things.
>>85273301Any industry that tries to appeal to the lowest common denominator has, but I have to say that it used to be bad too, especially j-games where they only have a few voiced cutscenes combined with loads of non voiced textbox dialogue. People complain that some games are just movies but some games are just virtual novels. And I love reading but you want action.
>>85273301You have no idea how badly they have.Modern games are terrified to let the player deal with any actual adversity. We live in an age where player characters are programmed to tell you how to solve the puzzle ten seconds after you walk into the room containing it, before you've even had a chance to attempt to solve it yourself. We live in an age where yellow paint is seen as a necessity. We live in an age where the first twenty minutes of any game are popup boxes telling you the controls and how to play, rather than organic level design teaching you how to play out of necessity.Old games assumed their players were smart enough to take initiative and figure out how to beat them.New games assume their audience is too stupid to breathe without being reminded.>>85273316The much larger issues are the trends taken by media, and particularly social media.
>>85273301The audience has changed. Video games are mainstream now. Everyone under the age of 50 plays video games to some degree, even the women. There are still strategy games and games with a lot of reading, but they've been relegated to indie developers as the AAA studios chase after mainstream appeal.
Games just lack soul.Everyone that was creative for some reason decided to vilify his/her soul by becoming a homosexual. The other people that never had creativity to begin with is only occupied with earning money and chasing status. So this is what we're left with. And I don't even mind homosexuality all that much, like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is pretty creative in it's writing. But when people make it their sole identity this too thwarts real creativity. Especially if they worship women.
>>85274128bro old games literally had guide pamphlets sold alongside them. it is same tutorial, just on different media
>>85274665I was going to say, the last time I played an old game the introductory section of the game was dedicated to explaining controls and providing a dumbed down tutorial just to get started. In fact, it seems like newer games are doing less of that as they appeal to older audiences. That anon is huffing some heavy nostalgia.
>>85274665Yeah dude, it's so much better when I have to use multiple log-in registries and launchers just to suffer through an unskippable 30 minute PRESS A TO FOLLOW THE BIG BRIGHT RED LINE instead of going to a store to buy a game and leafing through the tips 'n trivia booklet that came with the cartridge before you play the game that fortunately refuses to hold your hand through the whole thing because it assumes you're not actually too stupid to tie your own shoes. Fucking hell.
>>85274715what a stupid strawmanmy argument was about treating players as dumb, not games being good or bad or anything
>>85274738And if you weren't too brain dead to read normal sentences then you would have realized that's exactly what I was talking about. You modern target audience.
>>85273301>It seems like a lot of text and statistic rich strategy games have died out in favour of hack and slash and shooter games.Wtf is this logic. People weren't playing text adventures in the arcade
>>85274738He's NGMI. The guy is lost in his own shit raging about how bad games are because he doesn't look niche indie titles like most gamers do these days. Explains why >>85273331post was conveniently ignored by every single person on this thread.
>>85274761>uhhh he's not actually arguing the point he's just MAD haha just ignore him <3strawman cope
>>85274681The tutorial heavy shit started in the late 90s and peaked in like 2010 or so, after about 2010 is when you got yellow paint/blue object/etc. visually telling you where to go.
The most mindboggling thing is that every action game has wallhack built in, zoomers literally can't play without it. Even fucking Hitman.
>>85273301That lead poisoning really fucked up multiple generations. No wonder everyone from boomer to millennial is retarded.
>>85273301I'm waiting for adventure games with AI characters you can really talk to
Skyrim just tells you where to go. that was already annoying in Oblivion (coupled with teleporting, even to places you haven't been).like you could make that a system in the game: you talk to an NPC for directions, then follow those directions. even overheld travel could be like Daggerfall or old-school D&D: risk/reward based on mode of travel and gold spent on inns, so you're weighing up money and random encounters against time.sometimes i wonder if game designers have two teams and one says>i made a cool dungeon/world/quest.and someone else goes>great, i'll add in the stuff that tells the players how to get through it.(yellow paint? dafuq?)
>>85273301zamn! sauce on the nigger vixen?
