dont expect to be healed by them, threy are meds in the same way ibuprofen is a med. If something hurts it numbs the pain and lets you function in society but it does not heal you nor deal with the cause of the issue. Zoloft works for me in that it makes my despair and hopelessness bearable so I don't kms, and bupropion allows me to work for 8 hours a day, but I am still depressed, my life is still not worth living and the world is a horrible place. On the other hand, dont listen to people saying it will fuck you for life or give you psychosis. This may be the case of opioids or benzo or anti-psychotics, but depression meds (SSRI, SNRI, NDRI) are safe and milder than alcohol or even caffeine. When I stopped working I just quick both cold turkey, felt dizzy for a few days and now I feel fine, like before I took them.
