falling asleep doesn't come easy to me. I wish there was a button I could press that would immediately put me to sleep and transitioning from night to day would just feel like a 5 sec cutscene where I'd always wake up refreshe. instead it's always a torture and I get very bad sleep no matter how much effort I put into sleep hygiene. it's a mental thing. my life sucks, my nervous system recognizes this and punishes me accordingly by spiking the bad stress hormones.
>>
*the only things that would lower my cortisol and help me fall asleep peacefully would be cuddling with someone I love

Dealing with the same stuff right now and of course I learned sleeping pills don't actually fix this.
What good is sedation without restful sleep???
How long have you been dealing with poor sheep dude?

You've probably seen people say you need light as soon as you wake up countless times. What they don't say is that outside light, even when the sky is covered and grey, is 10x that of indoor light, even if you have the clinical white light. Measure it yourself with a lux app if you don't believe me.

So, go on a walk for at least 30 min, within 30 min of waking up. You'll see you'll get sleepy before your usual bedtime. Buy a 10k lux lamp (the ones that have been clinically studied like Carex) if there's no sunlight when you wake up.

i can relate
i noticed the only time when i can fall asleep naturally and effortlessly is when I am being rocked by a car or bus
i probably need a rocking bed but i will never be able to get one because i am both poor and live in a shithole

This applies to you too. And sleeping pills work much better at 0.5 mg 3-5 hours before bedtime, not a full 3-6 mg pill at bedtime like they sell it. I'll never understand why they don't put the actual posology on those bottles. Melatonin is not a sedative. It's meant to nudge your hormonal cycle. You just need a little at the right time.

I forced myself to wake up at 5.30 am, exercising in the morning, eating a good diet, abstaining from screens, cooling the room, doing things that I would enjoy and put me in a relaxed state of mind before bed. it's no use. I feel like as long as my life sucks, as long as I'm a bottom of the barrel social outcast failure with noone to love and noone to love me back I won't get good rest.

Melatonin is junk because it's not federally regulated and sleeping pills and stuff like zzquill don't actually help you sleep the knock you unconscious which I learned is not the same thing. You don't get restful sleep from pills or sleep medicine it turns off your brain and prevents you from getting rem sleep which is what you need to be refreshed.

I did all this shit too and it never worked either. Blasting myself with light early in the morning actually worked. Outside is way, way stronger than inside. We don't notice it that much because light intensity is perceived more on a logarithmic scale so as to allow us to deal in darker environments as well.

Bad mood and spiraling are also PARTLY downstream from poor sleep. Go take a walk within 30 min of waking up for a few days and see for yourself. There's no need to be consistent for months on end before you see results. You'll notice it between 1-3 days.
