>>85278268i've noticed this in severe autists. they will draw the same thing, over, and over, and over again, and they'll never improve because to improve you have to try to change it at least slightly. most people will draw and change their drawings slightly subconsciously, but autists can draw it the exact same way every fucking time, and they do. If you're not badly autistic, just draw is not bad advice to a degree, but if you draw with focus and intent then you can improve quite quickly. I've been drawing for like 8 years following the "Just draw, and draw a lot!" advice, and while yes, i did improve a little, there are people who have drawn for all of 1 year who mog me, because they focused, and read and understood books about improving at art, whereas all i did was draw. it takes more than just drawing or learning from a reference.

Not just drawing, not just drawing alongside a reference, but hunkering down and studying, reading what the old masters have written, tracing drawings and tracing them with construction lines to understand how they're made? If you do all of that, and you really try, for at least an hour a day every single day without exception, if within a month you're not mogging yourself, then fine, I agree, you've earned the right to give up. But so far it sounds to me like you've spent the last few years walking around in a circle, and seeing that you've made no progress, you're giving up forever, instead of trying to go in a straight line.
