this happened years ago.
>be me early 30s, no friends, no gf
>years of neethood
>finally get a job
>it's a dead end but it's going well enough
>start going to a climbing gym
>make a climbing buddy, getting comfortable.
>he invites me to a bar with some of his friends for his bday
>sperg out
>oh sorry i don't think i can make it
>he looks a little disappointed
>i'm hating myself
he moved a couple weeks later. that was the last opportunity i had to make a friend. idk why i always self-sabotage. sorry dude, it wasn't you, it was me.
such a fucking loser i am.

anyone else sabotage themselves anytime something good comes along?

>anyone else sabotage themselves anytime something good comes along?
i feel you, anony.
you're preaching to the choir. my life is so full of "almosts"
>>
>>85279812
care to share one anon?
>>
>>85279794
With you there buddy, maybe we are masochists
>>
>>85279794
Well look at it this way, maybe you saved yourself so much worse embarrassment that would have happened had you gone and made a drunken ass of yourself.
>>

i went mad with loneliness until i forced myself to go meet an online friend like 5 years ago, fortunately worked out but every single time an oppurtunity comes up im still really forcing myself to make an effort. my social situations usually go okay but nothing special.
>>
>>85279847
that was the fear, but honestly who cares. i don't see him anymore anyways. in the long run i had nothing to lose by going and everything to gain. perhaps in another universe i went and we kept building our friendship and kept in touch after he moved. he only moved 1 state away anyways.
>>
>>85279873
dont worry about the "in another universe" shit, that doesnt exist. all you can do is keep rolling the dice and see what happens. thats why i refuse to ever say no if im invited somewhere, i cant stand missing out on something when its presented to me, but realistically i need to be much more proactive about making them happen, i just dont know how.

Also, you can always just drink n/a beverages and never have to explain yourself. Whenever someone asks, I just say been there, done that, happily sober now. You could even offer to be the designated driver if you drive.

yeah, it's just the anxiety shit always got to me. the idea of being somewhere unfamiliar with a lot of people to meet always intimidates the fuck out of me... especially after a long bout of being neet. i was just never good at being social.
>>
>>85279906
Gotta admit that the idea was also kind of exciting, as in anything can happen Tuesday kinda vibe.
>>
>>85279929
anxiety is such shit. i used to daydream all these delusional scenarios where i'd meet people and have friends from the comfort of my room but then when it came to actually going out i need days to hype me up just to leave the house. forget talking to people. i don't know what i'd even say.
don't know how i even ended up at that gym. just going there was incredibly out of character. i can't even get myself to go back.

>i need days to hype me up just to leave the house
Textbook autism, many such cases, it's actually quite common. I'm up for social opportunities though, as long as it doesn't cost me anything and if I'm not having fun I can just quietly leave at any time.
>>

>What do you mean I have no friends? I stay home all day, never go out and don't even use any social media, not even multiplayer games
Why didn't anyone tell me things don't just happen?
>>
there's really people over 30 posting here? gross
>>
>>85280467
If you're under 30 and posting here, there's something really wrong with you.
