A friend of mine who was unemployed, was a victim of suicide. I didn't ask AI if mass suicide was a solution to mass unemployment (question would be too charged). I just asked if suicide of out of work people lowered unemployment statistics.

Well, I do have to report every month. But it's rather quick. I just tick the boxes : no activity this month. No changes in my personal situation. Not in training.

But at the end, there's a counter-nudge that infuriates me : after clicking 10 boxes of "no" on two web pages, in the end of second page, if you read the sentence **slowly**, you understand that if you don't say "yes", you will lose your status of uneployed, actively looking. I wonder how many people get tricked. The question is "are you still actively looking for a job, and do you wish to remain listed as an unemployed person?" A person who would really like to find work but has lost hope for a month or more can unconsciously click "no", just because they clicked so many "no" before, knowing it was the correct answer.

This last question doesn't stand out, they don't say, "now that the interrogation about your job search is over, let us finish with an important, if rhetorical question".

BUT to help our brown friends not fall in these traps, there are tons of job of "digital inclusion" where you can do this kind of paperwork for people who don't speak french very well.

I know I still cant believe it, the worst part is I didn't realise how lazy id become with a full time job, never done full time before but I can barely bring myself to ever do a full shift, we have thing thing called flexi time where we can build up additional time doing over time so I do ''overtime'' at home then use it to leave the office early as we can do in anywhere from 6am to 10am as core office hours are 10 to 2 so I just up and leave around 14:00 to 14:30 and ive been doing this for well over a year and never been called out but the paranoia is setting in. I was looking into index funds as apparently those are low volatility, I dont like the idea of putting in a grand or something and it disappearing. Taking classes to learn a foreign languages helps me a bit with my self esteem. I met a foreign University professor who invited me to listen to a gregorian choir, with a friend of his.
Then we went to dinner. (I'm older than you, btw). They both had children, the other guy worked in finance, linked to left politics. Oh, and there was a woman working (high up) in international charity.
I didn't have enough money, so I didn't take a dessert. I was the only one, and I was ill at ease, I felt both ridiculous, and ill at ease because I could make them feel guilty, it was an awful situation, it felt so long.

Also, the finance guy invited me to a private whatsapp where you can go to dinner with foreign women (and men) from that country. I said yes because I was drunk (I had heard of it and had been dreaming for an invitation in years). The day after, I wrote to him and declined, providing the real reason (I never lied to them about being out of work for quite some time).

It was the first time (and only time) that this guy invited me. I was very proud to have said yes, despite my shameful situation. But afterwards, I disappeared completely. No DM to say thanks, no return invitation...
But then (what you said reminded me of this), maybe 2 months later, I thought about the internalization of shame and all that. Maybe I cried a little. Then I wrote to this friendly foreign professor, and said thanks for the concert and dinner.

For western Europe, on the contrary I found that the jobless control experience is strangely similar, if not identical. At least between France and England. Apparently, they get the "reforms" there first, we get them afterwards.

For example, France used to have a National Agency for Employment. In England, it was, or something became the "job center". So in France, ANPE was renamed "pole-emploi", an almost literal translation.

When I found the history of all this, I was shocked. Because our mass medias keep saying France is an exception : too many lazy people leeching off welfare. They always hide that the problem is general in western europe. It's not an individual problem, unemployment is a social problem. Or rather, a deliberate decision to kill Labor Laws with outsourcing and illegal immigration.

You also didn't address my point. Such level of government micromanagement really isn't common in Europe at all. It doesn't happen in germany, holland, italy, spain or all of east europe. That was my point.
