What is one thing you enjoy or have enjoyed about your life

For me if I had to pick just one thing it would be relaxing and drinking coffee
>>
Reading Ulysses.
>If Ulysses is not worth reading, then life is not worth living
>>
I helped other people in a variety of ways. I paid for japanese exchange students to visit southern arizona and i like to think i enriched other peoples lives with my humor and consideration.

I enjoy playing cod zombies on my ps5. It's the bo2 port. I play cell block grief almost every other night. Fun stuff.

Not as good as vid related, but it's something.

The experience of having lived in south Korea in my early-20s, and all the experiences that happened therein.
>>

Can you tell me a bit about it

Whenever I think about Asia I always think it's almost a completely different world and how they operate the cramped alleyways in the shops and the way people act was the wires and the lamps and the lights the weather and the rain the way people act

I've always wanted to travel and see the world in different places

Well, what in particular would you like to know about; I won't deny or confirm 'most' things. I didn't live in Seoul, but did go there every weekend.

Is there anything in Western society that takes you back to those times in Eastern society

the patch before TBC dropped when they gave everyone welfare epics for PvP and i got to play alterac valley on my 'lock in full purple gear. this was back when there was un-nerfed fear spam. i have too many great gaming-related memories to mention including making games/maps of my own but its all gone like tears in rain.

The knowledge that one day it will end and I will stop existing.
I'm so fucking tired of this shit already, I just want to drop dead without horrible pain or a huge risk of an even more miserable life.
>>
>>85418075
Hm...I guess, more like what ISN'T in Western (particularly American) society makes me nostalgic for Korea again.
>fleshed out, well-maintained and affordable public transportation
>miniscule and almost non-existent instances of violent crime
>general sense of calm and safety everywhere you go (especially outside of Seoul)
>convenience for damn-near EVERYTHING, with nothing being too far out of reach
I could seriously go on...but I'm going to start studying soon.
>>
>>85418095
That does sound quite peaceful good luck to your studies

If you ever have the opportunity, absolutely go to south Korea at least once. Maybe even tour the DMZ (which I've done, twice), see some other historic sights, and so on. Prefer you go in the Spring or Fall; Winters are brutal enough to freeze the balls off a polar bear, and the Typhoon Season of the Summer is nothing to play with (I experienced a flood there).

i wish i knew how to start forming new and amazing memories that i will look back on years later with fondness and i want these experiences to happen now.
>>
>>85418118
I was surprised to hear you say vthat the winters were rigid before giving it thought but it makes sense considering it's very mountainous and coastal

There really is different worlds out there all with their own different people living their lives in different ways

I'm tellin ya, the Winters are insane. 5-degrees F during the DAY, and the Koreans just walk about like it's nothing. Same as when it's 90-degrees. Busan and Jeju might be different, of course.
>>
>>85418162
Was it more of an introverted society or an extroverted society due to its collectivism
>>
>>85418229
Because on one hand I would think collectivism would lead to higher rates of extroversion due to a shared sense social responsibility but on the other hand it would depend on what their social responsibilities were and depending on what they were it could lead to either one
>>
>>85418229
>>85418235
Introverted, absolutely. Though not as introverted as Japan (and I was admittedly in a 'country' town/city), it was much, much quieter than the average American place. No loud music, no one constantly shouting, a lot of bad drivers as you'd expect (almost got run over by a moped on the sidewalk more than a few times), but generally quiet and serene, even midday. The loudest areas were near U.S. military installations, as one would expect.
>>
>>85418248
Nta but I'm so jealous of you Anon. I'm too autistic to even go outside half the time but it's my dream to do something like this. I fear I may be too retarded however. You get to live a really cool life, enjoy it fren
>>
>>85418257
It's only because I was (and admittedly, still am) a horrendous fuck up as an adult, but my mom was still in the military, so I got to continue living with her and my step-father as they were stationed in Korea. I wasn't allowed to just 'be there,' so I started taking college courses (mostly online), which also allowed me to go on the military installations themselves. I really should've locked in.
>>

>>
>>85418264
Did you socialize with the locals? I fear I never could. I'm already an autistic mess in america. I really just wish I could go to a safe, pleasant country unlike the shithole that America is whether that is in asia or elsewhere..I went to Japan for a very short time, and it had a similar feeling to what you have described. To live there long-term would be a dream.

Where did you end up Anyways if you're not over there now
>>
>>85418248
It's good you got to experience something in your life that you have genuinely enjoyed and I hope you can experience that or more again

Why do you think the Koreans in Korea aren't happy apparently it's one of the more depressing parts of the world

Change is possible it's not about what could have been but what can be
>>
>>85418287
Barely; I didn't make any friends, not even American ones. I learned the language enough to be able to survive and get around (reading Korean is super easy), but found that I didn't really need to work on becoming fluent. I should have, and probably would have had a MUCH better time, but it is what it is. Started focusing on Japanese instead.

I'm back in the U.S....working six days a week in a warehouse around irascible man-children and not putting my degrees to use. Hating life, but too angry to die. Trying to figure out how to leave for good this time.
>>
>>85418298
>Why do you think the Koreans in Korea aren't happy
And oppressive work-culture on par with Japan's, constant pressure to succeed/have upward mobility from the time they can walk, schooling like there's no tomorrow (it's common to see young kids and teens walking around at night going to or coming back from cram school), the government being literally controlled by like 5 extremely rich families/companies (Chaebol) and those same families being able to exert control on the everyday lives of the average Korean, etc. They call it "Hell Joseon" for quite a few reasons, and things like K-Pop only mask that. I once walked through a modern-day shantytown over there.
>>
>>85418301
That's rough, im sorry. I haven't worked in more than a year now but will likely return soon. Hated my warehouse job. Hope you can get to where you want to be
>>
>>85418320
>Hope you can get to where you want to be
Me too, Anon. Me too...
>>
Absolutely nothing. I legitimately don't have any good memories and I probably have a whole heap of serious problems I'm unaware of because nobody ever cared. If there's anything good anout being alive, it's that it doesn't last forever.
>>
>>85418316
I was going to ask a question I just researched for myself and I will ask it anyways to hear your own opinion as someone who has been in the south

You already know where this is going

North Korea apparently I just learned to uses a communistic system called Songbun that essentially decides somebody's career and where they can live or if they can go to university

Do you think that the north at least in Pyongyang is generally happier than the South due to less of a pressure to work and compete harder in a capitalistic system
>>
>>85418346
When I lived in the South, I'd have said
>hell no!
but now that I've actually researched how the North functions, why it does 'what it does,' and have managed to talk to some Northerners who live and work in China's Yaniban Autonomous Region, I'd say
>they probably are, given the circumstances
Granted, they can't just go whereever whenever, but the lack of pressures so prevalent in the South (including the possibilty of homelessness, which a huge number of south Korean elders deal with) combined with the country being 'purpose-driven' gives Northerners a sense of...well, purpose. People think the North is oppressive and tryrannical, but they've never seen how the South really is and was before the 1990s.
>Gwangju Massacre
>Jeju Uprising
>Bodo League Massacre
Or how the south Korean presidents (like Park Chung Hee) were toward their own citizens.

Picrel is an actual North Korean citizen whose pic I took at the DMZ.
>>
>>85418362
It's actually a really awesome photo damn one of my first thoughts was what if you made tried making him laugh but no that would be completely disrespectful and he would probably get disciplined if he smirked

That's fascinating to think about

Essentially the general population is operating at what would I would think too be the equivalent of late 1980s level technology with the exclusion of a pre-programmed smartphones that you can buy apps from at physical stores which I think is awesome

That's really really cool I wish that was here I wish we could go to a store and get an app like a blockbuster or something

But I see what you mean when it comes to purpose they're giving a role in society and they have an obligation to fulfill that role to keep the society going

A simple yet clear purpose essentially saying this is who you are and this is what you will do

They have stronger community bonds I assume of course they can learn what they would like to in their own free time

In the South it seems that they are almost the opposite

This isn't to say that North Korea is good at all it's far from that

Outside of the chosen privileged sector living in Pyongyang there are people suffering and probably worse suffering than the average South Korean man

But I don't know I haven't met the rural population I don't want to be a North Korean sympathizer but I wonder what it would be like to talk to one of them and ask them how their lives are in that rural area outside Pyongyang
>>
>>85418362
But yeah probably the coolest photo I've seen all day I like how there's two of them and it's almost like they're both each other's shadow it's almost metaphorical
>>
>>85418389
You can talk to them on RedNote; that's how I did it.

>>85418394
I went to the same place Trump did about 8 years before him. Very high-pressure zone.
>>
>>85418403
That's awesome to think that you're probably the closest anyone on this board has been to North Korea

Where you stood Trump once stepped and shook hands with another leader that will go down in history

It depends if separation outweighs solidarity

It could be better for them to remain separate but at peace maybe even tourism allowed in specifically coordinated Time pockets

Spending time with my cats.
I've NEETed it up for several years and my parents are okay with me staying home as long as I help around doing chores, but I rescued a bunch of them, one by one, from around the neighborhood since 2019 and I stay with them all day.
I love how they sleep for hours to no end. I love watching them laze under the sunlight. I really like it when I feel like doing nothing so I lay in bed and a couple of them sleep over me, burying me in a wave of purrs.
They were all grown up when I picked them in; some have passed away in the last couple of years due to age or illness flaring up in their late adulthood. It's alright if I have ten, five or maybe just one more year with them, and I'm trying to enjoy it while they're around. Once the last one passes away, I won't get any more pets, get two or three jobs and kill myself through exhaustion to make up for the time spent here. I've been a leech to my folks, but I had good reasons for it.
