>>85421288I know this is a popular meme but I think an important distinction that some people might not realize is that there's no superstition in circuit design, i.e. the object and its use haven't replaced its function. If you're familiar with Warhammer 40,000 (or maybe the inspirational Foundation stories) then you might know that the tech-priests in that fictional setting are superstitious, but (for the most part) that's only a misguided belief; they just lack the understanding to appreciate what some "runes" mean, much as people today do, but that doesn't mean that literal superstition has occurred. Their technology still works the same way it always has.

But imagine with rise of AI design chips which will become more advanced, alien and too complex for any single person to understand in short period where by next iteration they still haven't understood how old design works. Plus with competitive nature of world would you waste time in trying to understand chip, open source it for others who could do work for you or would you keep it propietary software that will be left on shelf collecting dust. I mean look at AI progress where we still don't fully understand how AI models with scale, gradient descent somehow gives you a chat bot that can do work.
