I recently started a new job after 8 years of NEETing. It's fucking rough, I can barely form coherent sentences when people speak to me. Most of the time I just say "yeah" regardless of what the person says to me. They're starting to catch onto the fact that I'm a social invalid too, most people have just stopped speaking to me entirely I guess because they think I don't want to talk., which isn't necessarily true. I'm not sure I can fix the damage I've done to my brain.

Also, be honest that you are "kinda shy" and generally keep to yourself. Make it obvious that it isn't personal. You can't control how people feel about you, though, so you'll have to accept that some people are just dickheads. It's ignorance, not malice, most of the time.
