Tldr, at University I used to get made fun of. Like I am definitely neurodivergent(not diagnosed with autism but adhd, though I dont medicate anymore)
I mean I got made fun of fairly regularly, not super bad bullying(sometimes people would throw stuff at me but I chalked it up to people being mischievous or whatever) but definitely more than the average person at my Uni
Then I decided to stop pretending to be neurotypical I just do whats comfortable to me.
I self soothe by rubbing my hands. I stare at the ground or patterns in the ceiling and I avoid eye contact. I never smile. I walk faster than everyone else because its more efficient that way.
Now I dont get made fun of at all? People are actually nicer to me than before.
Tldr Being a sperg isnt so bad. I think masking was actually the problem. I feel like society likes me more than Im myself.

i went through this and now i just pretend to be nonverbal and cry whenever im uncomfortable around people
i am female though so i definitely get more leeway than if i was a man

Is that actually scary? Im not neurotypical so maybe I dont understand how it is scary.

Well whatever it is it is working

I understand. Thats a good strategy as well. I should have considered that before

to be fair most of the time i genuinely do feel uncomfortable enough to cry but in the past i would hold it in and bottle my emotions up trying to be normal whereas now i just let it out. i don't care what people think of me anymore because i tried my best and it ended with me feeling so low each time.
