Does anyone else feel so fundamentally un-adult?
quite, yes, although i am merely larping unlike yourself
>>85424863Not really but I'm probably currently under socialized I don't ever go out or do anything with anybody unless it's deemed necessary such as work or a doctor's appointmentI never go out of my way to go out with anybody who invites me anywhere or make friends to go do stuff with because that does not interest me in the slightest I see it as a waste of time I prefer meaningful one off interactions with strangers or predictable interactions with regular acquaintances or just being around other people in public
>>85424863Yes. Although that's probably because I dropped out of year 12 at age 18 and haven't ever worked a job.
I'm in the late 20s and mentally feel like a 13yo due to my mother hammering ''learned helplessness'' into me
>>85424863don't really feel a day older than 16.A lot like these anons>>85424876>>85425036
Your parents are just their dumbass highschool selves but scaled up in age like 30 years
>>85424863Yes. Im 32 but will always be emotionally 13 but I was molested so atleast I have an excuse
I did for a long time, then I dated an 18 year old and realized I'm a lot more mature than I ever realized.
its weird because when I was 12/13 I felt 30yo due to being very emotionally flat and mature and now that im 30 I feel 12/13 in terms of milestones and feeling left out
>>85425136>because when I was 12/13 I felt 30yo due to being very emotionally flat and maturefun fact: that's traumathat's just a trauma response
>>85425148I did have trauma but lot of that came in my mid teens
>>85425153You could have just forgotten about it. I forgot about mine until recently, and even then I don't remember it, it's just contextual clues
>>85425230no I remember plenty before I was 13, and while those years sucked my 14-16 timeline is a blur of trauma. when sounds trigger specific memories from that period its like acute ptsd. namely things involving my mother. if I hear some woman screaming that immediately sends my brain into fight or flight mode.
>>85424863>be stunted during pivotal developmental years for various reasons >as adult am unable to experience life without the consequence of those delays was entirely out of my control, like someone was writing a script and didnt give me my lines.
>>85425256and what specific memories would those be? a woman screaming can be a good thing too sometimes yunno
>>85425328getting stabbed, heavy metal pans thrown at my head, woken up in the middle of the night by mother having a schizophrenic borderline personality episode where shes screaming delusional shit. Walking on eggshells simulator.
>>85425348Ok seems like this period affected you a lot, what did you feel about it. it also seems like you had flat affect before this period which makes me believe it goes deeper
>>85424863honestly, yeahi still barely work, eat like shit, stay up all night gaming and watching anime. no plans for a gfor starting a family, spend my free time working on a plethora of creative projects like music and drawing. i dont think i will ever own a house or a car and frankly i do not care. i dont live at home so i split rent with some other people, thats the only way i can afford to live like this lol.
>>85425425I was an (undiagnosed) autistic kid with learning disabilities who cried very easily growing up. I was soft to the point I'd get bullied for it through elementary school. being the biggest kid in my class who was also the quietest didn't help either putting a target on my back. That changed overtime dealing with a constant cycle of destabilization at home because of my mothers mental health spiraling down the shitter, partially due to my older siblings drug addiction and me not allowed to leave home (and having no kids around to hangout with) I isolated in my own mind 24/7 without internet to reach out to people. later in my 13th year something snapped in my brain, numbed out to everything or the ''flat effect'' set in. didn't cry when the cops got called over anymore, didn't give a fuck about my father getting thrown out or my sibling doped out on the couch or my mother looking distressed. felt detached and done with it all. I wrote a journal I kept in an abandoned house I dont have anymore of my suicidal thoughts in brief moments of clarity and came close to hanging myself in the basement there. if you're wondering why I kept it in an abandoned house my mother would randomly ransack my room when I was at school (filming it on her phone talking to herself) because she thought I was a crossdresser other delusional shit, I had no sense of privacy there. I would walk up the driveway off the bus to find my clothes or random shit thrown out the window. became more reactive to my mothers bullshit when I turned 14. couldn't sleep listening to her mumble to the voices in her head or 'whisper screaming' to them at 2 in the morning. so all I could do is scream in the middle of the night ''shut the fuck up'' to make her aware I could hear her or wake her up at 6am when I had to go to school the same way she'd slam my door open screaming nonsense. I missed a lot of school days skipping out to escape the stress of it all 1/?
>>85425615my sophomore year of HS I stacked up a hefty truancy record which my cunt vice principal jumped on to bring me into juvy court. That was probably the first time I felt my nerves fry, the weeks leading upto to that date the psychosis my mother went into was unlike anything else i'd dealt with to that point. Beating me daily, destroyed everything I owned, she threw broke and made a mess of everything in the house screaming at me for ruining her life and how she'd end up in jail because of this. Her eyes could never stare straight at me, they would dart around erratically with her moodswings. after shattering half the windows in the house she stabbed me deep in the shoulder with a pen to which I finally snapped and swung back at her head with a small hand vacuum laying on the couch next to me. As if none of that happened she switched back to another personality and ran into her room to the phone calling the local police as if shes the one in fear. the cops who had been frivolously called there a hundred times didn't care and basically ignored the bleeding hole in my shoulder and bruises and likely fractured bone on the side of my face and told me if they cameback they'd arrest me for domestic assault. So at that point I just gave up and stayed in the basement and padlocked the sliding doors shut so I couldn't be dragged into her bullshit anymore because I was entirely fucked. 2/?
>>85424863god.. lord help me
>>85425800Until that point it was fairly rare for her violent schizophrenic psychosis to slip up in public but the day of my hearing the mask slipped hard. Usual screaming and abuse getting ready for the drive, fearing for my life being her passenger during an erratic drive being beaten across the same left shoulder she stabbed. When we got there she was having a full on mental breakdown screaming at people staring at her in the parking lot and inside the court. I can't remember exactly what one woman said but she pretty much told her to knock it off or she would get the security there to which my mothers bouncing crazy eyes set in and she jumped up screaming profanities and chased her down the hall. That brief moment I should have just bolted right out of that building and ran off anywhere and let her public freakout be her demise. but I ended up getting called in for my hearing I dont need to get into, all they did was give me a probation officer. but on the way home it was the same shit and her throwing more things through the window, beating me throwing pans at my head stabbed me again with another pen in the arm that night. If I didn't mention before it she was a big time hoarder too, so thats why I could never invite people over. she shoved a big pile of her mountain onto the floor from the kitchen counter and screamed to clean it up along with everything else she wrecked then thankfully passed out from exhaustion. Theres more I could tell but that was the beginning of the insane asylum I called home.
The thing I forgot to mention during the court saga was my nerves were so fucked my legs were numb shaking, my speech was slurred my mind was empty the judge thought I was on drugs and I had to do weekly sequences of drug testing or else I'd end up back there if I missed one. Really goes to show how useful our establishment is in times of crisis

>>85424863I don't try to rebel against existing classifications but I know many we use now have been adjusted since their first use, including "adult". Life expectancy, involvement in bloodshed, understand and trust of governance, opportunity to gather resources... All of these are different now compared to even 200 years ago.A lot of the adults we knew as children could've done better, or simply weren't aware of or didn't take advantage of certain opportunities.I've had more success investing than my dad and it's that success that helped inspire him to look beyond his company's stock. Really, most of our parents could've invested, been far better off before beginning a family and then taught us to do so.But this isn't about holding it against them. It's about looking at the ways we can be better adults than those we grew up around, at least in practical ways. Could be in all ways or just in certain important ways. Reflecting on that potential makes me feel more optimistic about life.
>>85426315NTA but how do I learn the basics of investing? Who can I trust? I'm overwhelmed and there are so many grifters.
>>85426324Vanguard. Just dump everything in a global all cap fund. Watch it rise. Easy.
>>85426324>the basicsI just looked around and spent the time reading up on the goal and the team behind it to see if I could perceive any potential for price increase after I bought. It's not all too different from the carefulness you'd use when buying something expensive like a car.We also live in a world where it's not only the practical stuff with utility that attracts money, and even those sometimes have such long-term plans that they may not take off for years. Also as a newbie with no business classes I didn't think I could just determine which was the best between crypto, stocks and metals, so I diversified. You can choose to look for a mentor, learn technical analysis or pay for a course. I chose to just spend the hours reading and deciding for myself.A person may not always pick winners and those early winners might not retire a person, but if you really wrap your mind around why stuff has a chance to go higher and don't take on debt to purchase an investment, your wins will outpace your losses. No point in despair either. Many of us were far from legal working age when Amazon, Coke, BTC, ETH, and other amazing performers were cheap. But new opportunities keep coming and you just keep reinvesting gains from a win into new potential winners. It's one of the most useful forms of self-learning out there, but many feel too tired after work to bother trying to wrap their minds around an asset. Reading rather than gaming wasn't the best feeling int he world but it literally has paid off. Knowledge.gif and all that.
No, because there are some adults that consider themselves mature because they have a house and family yet act like toddlers and just scroll in their phones all day. Different walks of life with different ideas of self fulfillment. Their idea of self fulfillment is marked by traditional societal milestones and consumption which don't actually require you to be mature in any way to achieve.
