The down to earth /lgbt/-types are the ones I'm referring to as alternative, you're fine. It's my understanding that you're a conscious minority, contrasting with the blatantly fetishistic and deluded "reddit" majority. The heinous ideas I'm talking about mostly have to do with the way most trans people present their affliction, particularly the way it's presented to kids. I don't like when people pretend gender dysphoria is a naturally occurring symptom, or that it's rational to devote your life to appeasing it. With this line of thinking comes the idea that it needs to be dealt with as soon as possible. There's overwhelming support for children's transgender care, people even suggest that puberty should be prevented in the first place.
I respect people who want to live as a different gender than the one they were born as, people can do whatever they want. Suggesting it's righteous or medically sound is insane and causes a lot more harm than good.

hm, so in my view, if someone tells me they aren't transphobic and supports the basics like us having the right to change our documents, use the right bathroom (as long as we pass) and at least some minimal protections from discrimination, i would usually take them at face value in the sense of assuming they are not transphobic (not that they're necessarily supportive either, just that they aren't transphobic). similarly, when i tell you that i support gay people and support their rights to marry and not be discriminated against and to be openly gay, i think there's little reason to not take it at face value because why else would i say it if i actually had a problem with it
