Frost's video on genetic determinism changed my entire outlook on life. I've already held these beliefs but his two recent videos, including the one he deleted, solidified it. Now I don't give a fuck about what I do. I don't stress about my looks, my low iq, whether I'm a good or bad person, or the "immoral" things I've done because free will doesn't exist and there's absolutely nothing I have control over. I was just born that way. I was molded by genetics and environmental factors. I'm just an animal.

Thing is, he argues that criminals are this way because of their genes, upbringing and natural mechsnisms and instead of punishing them we could fix them. He forgets that people punishing criminals aren't doing it of their free will. It's natural mechanism of self-preservation on a group scale. Just like your immune system kills off diseased cells, or how ants kill intruders. Free will is merely simplification for mechanisms too complex for current science to map out to be able to predict it. This means emotions and desire for revenge also isn't actually conscious decision and that's what drives punishing crime. You would have to "fix" every human to get rid of feeling responsible for wanting to punish criminals for the sake of justice. But then again, why should his version be one we go along with? Not wanting to be modified is also part of our self-preservation because in the end life is just attempt at survival of information in form of genetic code., passed through generations.

Maybe 1-20% is free will depending on your circumstances and the rest of people is environment and genetics. But they're objectively bad people. But society doesn't want to get rid of them. Because they're competent and useful in the current environment. Back in the day autists were great monks, schizos were great shamans, but nowadays there is no role for them and so they get deemed bad and society doesn't want them really. Is it really good or bad, or "can it be useful to our society?". Even some criminals are "useful to society" so to speak... Which gets punished more/at all? You can choose revenge or not, but let's not pretend like most people just think of revenge as "how bad was it and how likely are they to do it again to me if I let it slide?". You can forgive someone for beating and graping you for years, could you forgive them if they did it all your life (~70 years)? You'd have to be a saint to do that, most people aren't saints. Also keep in mind some crime is just desperation, but there's some people that even if well off and could get a proper education and career, still choose to do crime.
