How did Mao Zedong win the Chinese Civil War?
>>
>>85433004

Waited while the Nationalists defended China from the Japanese, and then once the war was over used all his conserved strength to attack the Nationalists, who by that point were severely depleted from defending the homeland.

let the nationalists do the fighting then stabbed them in the back

There was a world war in the middle of it where Japan came in and conquered like half of China and the Republic of China spent all their manpower resources kicking them out.

With bananas. Ever head of gorilla warfare?

Read about the long march. Also the USSR gifted Manchuko to the Communists which added a ton of industry to their war machine which was already being fueled heavily by Soviet weaponry.

Chinese communist party had mass support among the mainly peasant population. Combine this with a weakened KMT from the war with Japan and the USSR liberating Manchuria whilst arming the PLA with their own and abandoned Japanese weaponry.

Another factor is the KMT itself, China was more a collection of warlords who had shaky loyalty to the central government lead by chiang Kai shek. Power struggles were common towards the end with chiang Kai shek being an unstable source of power. This is coupled with notorious corruption in which KMT officials engaged in bribery, banditry, and embezzlement which lead to an insubordinate military and military industrial complex.

If Mao had died in 1956 he would've been looked back upon as one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century. If he died in 1966, he still would be respected, but definitely flawed. However he died in 1976, and he's remembered mostly as a tyrant and a despot.

why?

Mao's early years of power between 1949-1956 were great. He opened up new industry, began industrializing China, reduced illiteracy, reduced poverty and inequality, redistributed land to the peasants, championed gender equality and women's rights, and oversaw consecutive years of steady economic growth. It all went to shit during the Great Leap Forward from 1958-1962, Mao's catastrophic attempt to completely turn China from a rural agrarian society to a modern industrialized nation in only four years. It led to a catastrophic famine were over 40 million people starved to death. Then he implemented the Cultural Revolution in 1966, which lasted until his death in 1976. This saw mass persecution and violence, and gutted China's academic institutions and skilled workers.

Basically, Mao started off great and got more and more deranged and incompetent as the years went on.

Americans didn't fight the Japs through Manchuria like the Soviets did. They stayed out at sea in their aircraft carriers fire bombing Japan into submission. The Soviets dictated who the Chinese victors would be because they actually had men in China fighting for liberation of China.
