The human mind is meant to seek out things to do when bored, even just ponder life at the very least. Video games are the ultimate engagement tool, however, because it rewards the same circuitry in your brain that makes you feel like you really accomplished something worthwhile when you didn't. I'd probably be a nobel prize winner if I spent all the time I spent playing vidya since I was 10 into actually cool interests.

But I think if it's a competitive team game with networking, studying to improve and a real skill gap. Then it is beneficial, learning how to outperform other people is a skill that can be carried throughout life. Most people never learn what it takes to be in the top 1% of anything. If you can get good at one thing, you know the process and can do the same to get good at anything. A healthy mindset transfers to any field.

I've become the best or among the best in several games, but because our society discourages elitism, it took me a long time to use that to my advantage and justify a higher esteem of myself and thus a higher drive toward what all else I think I deserve in life.If you can prove you aren't actually a complete loser in a game, it should dispell your illusions about being too much of a loser to have the life you actually want. actually it was my parents that stunted my social and moral development. with games i learned english by age six or seven and i tried to hang out with people online. when my parents intervened, i got sent to my room to where i could do nothing but just stare at the wall for hours, or they had me go get bullied and even sexually harassed by the older kids living there. now, i truly am stunted, and video games have become a self-destructive escape and addiction, but if had been left alone with them as a child, i could have developed into a more functional person than i did.
