there has never been a time when being a housewife was a viable option? like having a single income household?
i have a friend who is an actual unemployed housewife. her husband is rich enough that she doesn't have to work.

Yes it happened no it was not a psy op. It was a consequence of WW2 and Germany/Japan's industry being bombed to hell so American products charged a huge premium, which went away when Germany and Japan rebuilt their industrial sectors
