When considering if a surface is a manifold, you can do a mental pen-on-paper test and see if there is either a 'hole' or some spike somewhere. Agriculture, architecture, ecology. It's cool how there's these systems that interact or could be closed or open. Very interesting how the absolute worst way to do things is almost always the method chosen and applied. The why question was really difficult, not to understand, more that it was difficult to accept. There needs to be at least as many hanging bodies as there are lampposts.
