Imagine a hypothetical; Canada allies strongly with China in some capacity and allows them to build military bases all along the US border which have troops/rockets/tanks etc etc. The US would freak out and invade Canada which would be catastrophic for both sides. The US would be painted as evil monster invaders while Canada would be looked upon sympathetically while ignoring the root cause of the issue. It's sad like usual war just means 1 million innocent people lead to their deaths because of bureaucratic FAILURE.
