It's a hard job that doesn't pay nearly enough and most people are shitty little cunts. They get a splinter or stub their toe and think that's free license to be 10x worse of a person. I won't suggest anything crazy like saying nurses aren't evil, but they are nowhere near as bad as the average patient. Keep in mind how many assholes they deal with everyday. Somehow it is made worse having to deal with assholes and then wipe their assholes because the asshole shit the bed (again). Sympathy can only last so long, others greedily consume it all until you are left hollow. 99% of people only get sick because they deserved and asked for it.It's not the cute little bed with vitals clipboard hung at the end, thermometer under tongue, fluff a couple pillows. But we start at almost six figures right out of school, we have the most recession proof job in the world, you can move anywhere and expect a similar quality of life, and unless you lose your license you can always get a job within days if necessary. There's so many pieces of shit out there that people who are legitimately suffering don't get the care they deserve. Some silver tongued scoundrel or cunt boomer is given 90 Xanax bars and tramadol a month with oxys for breakthrough, yet a sincere person who is fucked over by fate gets the fuck you prescription two 500mg Tylenol three times a day for one week and a $5,000 bill without even trying to find out what's wrong. Chemical dependence was actually kind of fun while still a tech or intern, but they make you do psych too and there's no way to sleep with a clear conscience after doing that. I don't know what to do about all the crazies but drugging them and all the other shit is just inhumane torture. I tried ER but didn't have the stomach for starting ivs on little kids. They're so scared and anything you have to do is painful. You have to be very comfortable with lying to be a good nurse, and I'm a shitty nurse. Icu is best. Snow them, strap them to a bed, suck the junk out of their lungs and watch numbers change. Move them somewhere else when/if they wake up. I'm at an old folks home now and it's way different from hospital. Plenty I don't like about it, but at least the reigns are much looser. You can act according to your morals. We're basically just babysitting until they die. There's still bad patients but somehow it feels different, it's easier to go into therapeutic mode in geri. I still won't lie, but they're easier to redirect. Medsurg was awful. Old people can't help it. A 40 something fatass should be more respectful because literally everyone who isn't fat is better than them.Everything medicine is fake and science isn't real. 200 years ago we were talking about four humors and prior to that it was ghosts in your blood. That's what I did, just consider it a leapfrog or makeup for hourly rate not being enough. The other places have sign on bonuses either prorated monthly or delivered as lump sum across two payments for one year. I guess they figure they might catch a few and emotionally manipulate them into staying when they get a paycut after incentive is over. More honest and straightforward approach would just be converting the paybacks and bonuses into hourly pay. Anyone with half a brain sees they're just withholding wages then telling you they're giving you extra. Agencies do the same parasitic bullshit skimming off your hourly that they negotiate, but at least they're honest about it and keep giving you some the withheld "extra" instead of pretending they did you a favor but now arbitrary reason or timeline is up so you don't get the extra anymore.
