4chan has some very smart people, but it also has some exceptionally dumb people. Reddit is mostly midwit territory.

the nature of reddit's actual entire system is essentially antithetical to true free thought and expression. It's voting system reaching the top, means that generally opinions that are most lowest common denominator with its demographics will always rise to the top. In this sense, 4chan is entirely egalitarian and provides a much better platform for discourse. In fact I'm not really sure how you could have any discourse on reddit at all unless it's about extremely niche objective hobbies etc. I don't really understand how the reddit hive comes to conclude on what is and isn't acceptable though. To me reddit kind of spiritually represents that "rational" person who identifies with being a "rational" thinker and then has a hissy fit when presented with evidence that contradicts what they already believe.
