The small-scale startup disruptor type AI lab can start but will soon be poached by Americans because the salaries on offer are simply on another level and the large hyperscaler more infrastructure-heavy type companies cannot emerge because we have the highest energy costs in the world, no domestic chip manufacturing and a nearly insurmountable regulatory hurdle to overcome to build things like data centres.The idea that we will lead the world in anything is a joke, much less AI. This is the same problem with pension credit - if you didn't plan for your retirement you get more from the government than if you did plan for it, essentially being granted even more largesse for your poor decisions.
