I want to get a dog. I've never owned a dog before, but after doing some research, I've narrowed it down to a Labrador or a German Shepherd. Which one do you recommend for a first time owner and why?
>>
you should get a labrador so you can tell your friends and family "if you need me I'll be in my lab" and then fuck the dog in the ass hahahaha
>>
>>85702643
If youre gonna get dog, you should adopt
>>
>>85702643
Golden retriever for basic, but if you can handle it, get a sheltie or a border collie.
>>
>>85702653
It get a German shepherd and let him fuck you in the ass so whenever someone asks what your family tree/lineage is you can tell people you have some German in you.
>>
>>85702790
>so whenever someone asks what your family tree/lineage is
lol this only happens in poopskin muttmerica
>>
>>85702819
Give it another decade and Europeans will be asking each other which parts of the middle east their family tree is from.
>>
>>85702830
>w-w-w-whiter than u achmed!!111
lmao every single time with you lot
>>
>>85702655
Adopting is an option, I've considered it, but I'd like to look at specific breeds first, since you have a better idea of what to expect from the start.

>>85702672
>Golden Retrievers for basic
Basic? I've looked into Golden Retrievers, but they require a lot more coat maintenance than other dogs, so I went with Labs instead.

>if you can handle it, get a Sheltie or a Border Collie
I've looked into them, they are beautiful dogs, and I'd love to get one but I've heard they require a lot of exercise. The kind of dog that wants to run around a farm all day and still wouldn't have had enough. Probably someday.
>>
>>85702834
You're actively being replaced.
*Shrugs*
>>
>>85702859
you mean like what's happening to all major cities in your country? look inwards lmao fucking brain dead mongoloid.
>>
>>85702865
You'll live to see western cultural works like the statue of David smashed to pieces by sledgehammer in the name of jihad and there is nothing you can do to stop it.
>>
>>85702889
and? you'll live in the exact same conditions but with a slightly different tribe of feral animals so I don't know why you're so desperately acting like a crabnigger who thinks he gets to escape the bucket by seething impotently
>>
>>85702895
I can tell that struck a nerve with you cause you just shifted to a defensive stance.
>"B-b-but we're ALL getting replaced!!1!!1"
What happened to the nobility you had a few posts ago?
>>
>>85702914
you mean like you did in your very initial reply? you really aren't self-aware huh? maybe if you stop acting like your average american you wouldn't be extremely emotional about everything, but then again you -are- american so you'll just double down and seethe even harder while shifting the goalposts as you always do.
>>
>>85702937
Dude there's no way it took you that long to come up with that reddit ass reply.
>>
>>85702951
>What happened to all the nobility you had a few posts ago? >:)
Speaking of reddit ass replies.. of course you're literally too fucking stupid to see the hypocrisy and irony of everything you're barking ITT. Peak martshartian culcha.
>>
None. Dog owners are insufferable faggots who think their dog is so great and gud boi, then blame other people when their dog bites or chases after people just walking along a public sidewalk. for "provoking" them.

>inb4 le only shitbulls!
No, it isn't just shitbulls: it's all of them. Shitbulls are just the ones most likely because they have the genes to be insanely aggressive.
>>
>>85702951
>reddit ass reply
It's just a reply
>>
>>85702643
I think German Shepherds are famously well behaved which is why they're police dogs and such.
Labradors in my experience have been quite wild and unpredictable.
>>
>>85702838
Don't go for adoption, they only have pitbulls and pitbull mixes they mislabel as other breeds to get rid of them
>>
>>85702991
lmao this retard got bullied by a dog chad
>>
>>85703154
>Labradors in my experience have been quite wild and unpredictable
How so?
>>
>>85702643
do you have a garden ? if not, don't get a dog
>>
I would pick a German Shepherd out of those two. They are very smart dogs and the smarter they are the closer bond you can have with them.

I have a cattle dog which are insanely smart dogs and despite him being a little shit at times I love him like a best friend. Dogs are just so good man, I just love my dog. We're like a little pack and we go everywhere together and have adventures.
>>
>>85702991
I genuinely think that people who regularly get bitten by dogs are betas. I've been around dogs all my life, some aggressive, yet still never been bitten.
>>
>>85702643
i'd recommend getting something smaller. small dogs are easier
>>
I've never had a dog but I want to get a Beagle
>but theyre loud and naughty and stubborn
Don't care Snoopy is a Beagle
>>
>>85703376
I agree with that anon and my reasoning for this is because Labradors have been bred to be house pets for so long and by many backyard breeders that in general the only attribute that is considered when breeding them is how cute they are. Which means their other attributes, like intelligence, trainability and health are often ignored.

If you get a dog that is from a working line or not far removed from one they will be much healthier, smarter and trainable because the breeders actually had a financial interest in keeping or promoting these attributes. If you are selective you could probably find a German Shepherd who is also like this although you would have to be careful, lots of GSD backyard breeders. Lots of other breeds to consider as well from herding or hunting lines. I really like German short haired pointers, although I've never owned one. Just seen a lot around and they are beautiful dogs with a great temperament. But for me, it's the Australian cattle dog, the stubborn little fuckers.

If you get a SMASHED and SLAMMED dog you don't need a garden because they won't be going far.
>>
>>85702643
Don't get a german shepherd if you've never owned a dog before
>>
>>85703666
>Don't get a german shepherd if you've never owned a dog before
Why not
>>
>>85703862
a gsd's stability heavily depends on genetics, backyard bred shepherds are plagued by health issues such as hip problems and heart disease and are usually aggressive and fearful towards anyone other than its owner and sometimes to the owner, i've seen firsthand the difference between a pedigree shepherd and a neurotic backyard mess in the same household. night and day difference. the former you can trust your kids' lives to and the latter is only useful to let loose at the front yard at night to bark at people and during the day to the kennel it goes
>>
A Labrador seems to be easier for a first time owner
>>
>>85704711
>>85703376
Labs are retarded fetch machines.
They are not very interesting. They are for jumping into cold water without any sense of self preservation.
>>85703902
GSD's are working dogs that fall apart quickly.
Huskies need to pull sleds, GSD's need a fence to patrol like a predator.
These are not what people actually do with dogs, which is to keep them inside all day. GSD can just suddenly decide that they are unhappy or too stressed, and they're not so interested in your consent.

German shepherd is not a first time dog owner dog. You should be experienced with dogs before getting one because they are difficult and require specific training and discipline to not be monsters.
>>
>>85704865
Look at Joe Biden's German Shepherds. Biden was not a dedicated dog owner, his dog was basically just a prop for his political image. It wasnt trained and managed properly so it assaulted secret service agents, then he got another German shepherd and it did the same thing. It takes a lot of work and a lot of knowing what you're doing to make them not attack random people or bark at everything.
>>
>>85704889
Surely the SS men deserved to be attacked by dogs.
>>
>>85704909
Whether that's true or not is unrelated to the fact that German shepherd's require a lot of effort to not be that way

German shepherds need constant stimulation and/or two hours of exercise a day to not be pissy. Moreover, most german shepherds aren't even capable of being the obedient guard dogs you see on TV, because they need to be a part of a specially bred working line, AND (as other guy said) trained using special techniques.

Every common shepherd I've seen pulls on its leash, and acts out. When you get one, you're literally signing up to be the babysitter of its animal instincts, full time.

Labrador is probably the best bet. It'll go on walks and it'll be OK when you're out of the house.
>>
>>85704802
It's been so strange watching the r/dogfree feedback loop take the movement from a fairly levelheaded thing sprung from very reasonable annoyance at a particular type of recently emerging person who is obsessed with their dogs to the point of bringing them into grocery stores and movie theaters to just straight-up seething whenever they are reminded of the mere fact that dogs do, indeed, exist at all.
>>
Dogs need time and space
>>
>>85702643
Labrador. GSrds are great dogs but not recommended for residential areas or for average owners because they get mad separation anxiety and are rough with everything. Your furniture will get torn up and chewed eventually. It will also constantly bark at shit.

If you want a bigger dog, I've found that hounds and hound mixes can be very docile despite being like 70lbs. I was at a friend's house recently and they had some sort of hound mixed with a boxer and the thing was gargantuan but acted like a Lhasa Apso.
>>
>>85702643
Kill yourself retard, I'm sick of seeing these shitbeasts everywhere.
>>
>>85705229
Because dogs are disgusting creatures.
>>
>>85702655
most people who own a dog would be denied for adoption. it's actually really hard to adopt a dog, the shelter would rather kill them.
>>
>>85703376
I have a lab mix (dad is purebred hunting lab, mother is the epitome of a 10-breed mutt) and it is fucking crazy. smart as a whip but whines like a dying child any time it doesn't get its way.
>>
>>85706298
>it's actually really hard to adopt a dog
That varies. The shelters around me are all no-kill, and are extremely eager to load down anyone that walks in the door with as many animals as they're willing to take.

They even run BOGO specials on their used dogs.

Get a poodle if you don't want dog hair all over the place. They have hair like humans do; no fur. You have to give them haircuts or take them to a groomer though. My parents own 2 of them and they're both wicked smart.
>>
>>85707301
Poodles seem girly for some reason
>>
>>85708021
It's their haircuts
>>
>>85702643
get one that's quiet and eager to please
My parents have one like that and she's the best. I love that little retard.
>>
>>85708466
Lab or GSD?
>>
Labs are the best dogs.
German shepherds are good but show breeders have royally fucked their genetics and its difficult to get one that isnt an abomination.
>>
>>85708466
What breed is she?
>>
>>85708370

No they aren't girly
>>
Don't get a german shepherd unless you're prepared to do a lot of work to keep them content
>t. german shephered stray that my parents let into our yard and basically adopted now chewed through our vinyl fence and likes to leave our yard and roam around
>>
>>85708939
Don't people recommend working lines to avoid health problems in German Shepherds?
>>
>>85706185
OK. They're going to continue to exist no matter how much you seethe about that fact.
>>
why do people get working breeds just to have them not work. like what's wrong with a pug or chihuahua if you want a lap dog
>>
>>85712390
>like what's wrong with a pug or chihuahua if you want a lap dog
Too small they are barely dogs
>>
>>85712856
???

why does their size matter? it's a dog, except low maintenance and completely incapable of harming people. istg people get huskies just for the lulz and then act all shocked when it starts destroying everything they own and attacking everyone in sight after they keep it locked away in their 1-bedroom apartment for 16 hours a day
>>
>>85702643
dont get a keeshond german shepherd mix. Theyll bark all day and walk 0.2 miles an hour
>>
>>85713047
Time to walk the dog then
>>
Get a dog that will bond with you
