such an ubiquitously important yet difficult to attain skill.

Personally I found that the only way to consistently achieve this was focusing on never cutting corners or being passive during the first hour of the day, right after waking up. That hour, or even half hour is the only point where brute-force discipline plays a role. The rest of the day just ends up happening in a way that reflects what I did immediately after getting out of bed.

for me it was realizing that while not deciding to do the thing, i wasn't deciding NOT to do it either. i just keep postponing the decision itself, which tricks you because you believe you're still thinking and planning when and how you're going to do it, when in practice you're just already doing something else without ever having committed one way or the other.
i don't think there's a trick, it's really just "just fucking do it". when i force myself to decide right now, not later, following through is easy. it's actually not the execution that's hard, it's the decision that's sneaky.

Insightful stuff. I'm going to put it to good use... Someday.

The secret is mentally torturing yourself for 12-16hrs a day and becoming an insane time and routine obsessed freak. If you treat yourself like a Chinese schoolteacher in your own mind then you'll probably figure out whatever it is you have to do

The problem is actually reaching that point. I think I'm going to set alarms every hour to remind me to get back to work or something.

>every hour
At the start your iterative loop has to be sped up to an absurd degree like you're mentally torturing yourself. Like every few seconds in your own mind you're tard-wrangling yourself and you have to spend hours laboring like this as if you're multitasking the cognitive thing you're actually trying to do and also the metacognitive level thing you're trying to manage yourself doing.

Because help is not coming and we're left out to die alone we have to become insane and obsessed with figuring this out on our own

This describes it perfectly. And boy am I 'tarded!

what the hell is General Grievous doing in Portal?

Easy when it comes to simple tasks like cleaning things and filling out paperwork. But any more complex process involving layers of abstraction and my brain turns to mush.

JEDI? You want to learn how to use the force?

i can do abstract and chores but not things like paperwork.
