My sister for some reason signed me up for a one year gym membership without telling me. I don't know what people actually do there or how long I'm supposed to stay. I can apparently go whenever I want, but I am a total physical catastrophe who has never participated in any athletic sport. I'm 21 years old, 5'6" tall, and, wait for it... 103 pounds (47 kg).
>>
i wish i had a sister that cared about me and paid for my gym membership

Manifesting you an older sister that gets a raise after working for one year in one company that cares about you enough to get you a gym membership and an electric guitar
>>
>>85710955
Dang bro I've lost 25 lbs this year and I weigh more than 2 of you. If you went to the gym I would curl you
>>
>>85711001
Can you tell me how I should behave and what to do for my first time?
I believe anyone can kick my ass, my cousin is 11 years old and she was capable of holding me up and down for few seconds

>103 pounds (47 kg).
Women will kill for your weight bro
This bitch is shorter than you and has the same weight as you
You probably have zero bone density, drink more milk for the love of Apollo.

Thank you, I appreciate the help
I just wanted to know where to start and how much I'm expected to stay there
I know you didn't mean the last part, so I will wish for you to have a pleasant week

Oh I wasn't saying I could kick your ass. I was saying I could pick you up with an isolated bicep movement.

First time going to a gym, go with the machines. There's a stack of weights on them and a pin that locks in how many plates you pick up at once, and the machine isolates that lift to a particular motion. Start light, and if it feels too easy, go to the next level. The best way to grow muscle is to go until failure, where you can't complete the motion anymore, and you want to aim for a weight level where failure is around 10 lifts (called repetitions or reps). That 10 reps is called a set. After your set, you wait for 1-5 minutes, different people will tell you a different rest time but for a starter you can't really go wrong in that range, then you do another set. 3 sets is pretty normal, and then go do another machine. Remember, don't just count to ten, go to failure. If failure happens after 3 reps, that's a set, but you should lighten the weight so you can do more, and if you're doing 50 reps then you need to add weight.

Generally, in one visit, I try to do 3-5 exercises, and I like to group them up by motion type. For instance one day I do pulling exercises, then the next I do pushing exercises.

Finally, while you're doing all of this, you want to make sure you're getting a good amount of protein, and more importantly sleep. Exercise just breaks down your muscle fibers, the real gains happen in your sleep when your body has enough protein to use on building your muscles back. If you have a good workout, you may be very sore for a few days. That is normal and it doesn't feel like that every time you work out. A lot of people give up because they think they'll feel like that all the time if they keep working out, but in about a week you won't feel that way.
Good luck anon

I weigh as much as you except I'm 5'5". There's no point in going to the gym if you're below 5'7
>>
>>85711084
Genuinely thank you for effort posting
I have a better idea now on what to do
You are a good person, anon. I hope we had more guys like you
Enjoy your day and I hope that thing that you wish for can come true sooner than later.

Short men actually blow up so fast from working out compared to taller men. It's a shorter road to a great physiqueso you absolutely should. If you have big arms and are handy and confident and sweet, a lot of women will overlook your size. Aside from attraction, exercise is good for you anyways. It's a bank account that you withdraw from when you're in your 40s and your peers' knees and backs start hurting all the time, but yours don't. The second half of your life can be full of many wasted years of your body not working, but you can get that back if you take care of it now

Wagmi brother. You got this!
>>
>>85711119
It's all pointless because at that height you look like a child regardless of your physique, 5'7 frame is already terrible, imagine 5'5.
>>
>>85711130
I don't know most girls will kill for a guy with this physique
The only issue if you are way shorter than them, considering most girls are okay with guys with the same height as them, you can still make it

I don't how long it takes to see results from working out so I will let you know when I reach that stage
I didn't pay for this so I don't have anything to lose
>>

My 5'4 college roommate still worked out and had nice good big arms, and he also charismamaxxed. He was having more sex in college than me. Don't let yourself live by excuses for not being your best self. Even if that still doesn't compare to Chad, it's the body that you're living in and it affects your mood and your mindset whether it's healthy or not. You're nerfing your looks, your energy, your attitude, your focus and willpower, by sleeping on basic body work.
>>
>>85711199
And talking about how girls want like you in nonsense because it's not about the girls in the end it's about how you feel and see yourself. Girls have shit taste and shouldn't steer your decisions about your life.
>>
>>85711199
these gymmaxxed chadlets look ridiculously bad, it's as if you took a dwarf and gave him roids. They look like barrels or minifridges, just be twink bro, that's the best you can be in life at that height.
>>
>>85711217
You build a little amount of muscle week by week, you don't turn into a fridge overnight, and you can hop off the body building methods at any point, and there's tons of forms of exercise that you can do that don't make you get bigger. You're still just making excuses to be unhealthy. Humans were made to work our bodies
>>
>>85711217
Dude I don't want to get jacked just slightly less skinny like that character I posted
I don't want to buy completely new clothes and work out for the rest of my life
I will work out long enough to get some muscles on my bones and dial it back after two months or so
>>
>>85711243
>Humans were made to work our bodies
goatis said doing push ups is bad and unnatural
>>
>>85711264
yes but the character you posted is probably tall, at least 6', so you'd never look as good as him because of frame even if you had muscle.
>>
>>85711293
Why do I care about what some literal who said?
>>
>>85711305
You'd care if you weren't a slave.
>>
>>85711323
I'd be a slave in my own body if I was weak and couldn't use it as I please.

A brisk walk for 20 minutes a day is like a 25% life improvement versus total sedentary.
>>
>>85711580
I commute to my university on foot
I walk for like half an hour to 25 minutes and Google maps says I walk 2.5 km
So it's like 5 km of walking every day
>>
>>85711697
Sounds like weight lifting type shit is the only thing worth it for you there, if you bother.
>>
>>85711300
Closet fag, let the short kings reach their potential
>>
>>85711084
this advice is good and i came to post exactly this
>>
>>85710955
go in, walk on the tread mill for 5 mins, get a protein shake and go home. Do that for a while and then slowly do more. The most important thing is doing something rn. Not a lot. but something. Don't expect results just do it because you need to. Get it into a habit.
