My wife of 2 years (been togehter for 12 years) suddenly decides she wants kids and wants to adopt a kid. I've been clear the whole time that I don't want kids because they bore me, annoy me and don't interest me in the slightest. If I don't want to join her in adoption, she say swe may have to divorce and split up as she feels that strongly about it.Ive basically trying to convince myself that a kid would be great and a family unit would be lovely to have. Especially when old, we'll have someone to care for us (maybe...) and I'd make a great dad . I just don't want the responsibility' I love having minimal responsibility and floating along in life with minimal commitements. What should I do?
>>85711852It sounds like it's time for her to be a single mom raising someone else's kid because she wasted her fertile years with you.
>>85711852Why do you think she had such a sudden Epiphany about wanting a child that would piss me off too Are you guys financially secure are you guys mentally stable is your relationship stable like what's the deal how would you guys be a good home for a human being What kind of child would you want would you be adopting a toddler or a newborn or an older child Lots of things going into thisMan I'm in the same boat as you I don't want kids either so if I was with somebody for 12 years and then all the sudden they just wanted a child out of nowhere it would be shockingI don't think it's worth the hassle of around two decades of raising a child that isn't your own and that you're going to have a ton of drama with and who might be a completely different neurotypeTell her to go raise it on her own man geez that's a horrible situation to be in
>>85711906Thinking about it if you guys have been together for 12 years and I'm also thinking about the family unit thing it could be a good thing 12 years is long enough to know that that bond is obviously something that can last another 12 because it's proof of concept so if you guys are going to spend a few more decades together until you die why not raise a kid in that time and give it a good life You could genuinely create some happy memories and have the role of being a father with a human connection to a son or daughter It's definitely a whole lot of responsibility but it's a whole lot of moments you can cherish for the rest of your life I would say just to make sure to choose what you adopt wisely I guess

>>85711931I know I'd love a lot of asspects of having a kid, I'd love to be able to teach the kid the world and I love articulating at a low level soa child would understand. I'm actually feeling quite sold on the idea but god damn would it change everything about our ultra-chill homelife. We are spontaneous and love the peave in our home. It's something I would potentially never get used to and would never enjoy. But as an altruistic thing to do, we are well prepared to accept a child into our home.>>85711906We are financially secure, we could easily afford a child. The charitable aspect is something that appeals to us both. I.E. accpeting a very disadvantaged kid and giving them a much better life than they were going to get. Age-wise, I'd persoanlly liek to skip the larvae phase lol. I'd like a 6-8 year old. Were both around 40 and I don't want to be 50 with a 10 year old. >>85711983Yep!
>>85711852I don't know, man. I worked with kids and I got nieces and nephews and stuff. Kids can be pretty fun. Really brings back the simple joy and the wonder I felt about the world when I was growing up. I don't know if a guy who doesn't like kids should be a dad, but maybe your feelings could change if you spend some time around them. Maybe you got some relatives who could use a hand? It's fun playing with them and showing them new toys and watching them discovering cool stuff about the world. Kids will go through various stages of interests like dinosaurs, space, sports... Maybe you got a hobby or skill you could share with a kid? They are a lot of work though. The biggest responsibility you can have really. Expensive too.
Adoption is cucked, don't do that to yourself. If she wants kids so bad she can actually make them so you at least get to enjoy her pregnant body and milk, and it's actually your kid and not some unrelated piece of shit that you will just resent. At least a single mothers kids are related her.
>>85712012Oh man a 6-year-old to 8 year old that's sweet man that shows you actually want to give it a good life too and aren't just being you know greedy about the hassle of reproduction and the existential burden of it or whatever Good for you that's a kid who's lived long enough to probably have had a crappy upbringing but still has a crap ton of seriously important stages of brain development to goI think that it's also a good thing it's that age because it's less time to raise it I guess so instead of a 20-year commitment it's more like a 10-year commitment Imagine raising that boy or girl into a man or woman and them genuinely thinking you in a heartfelt moment that would mean so much as human being and as a man and as a father figure Go for it
Garbage in garbage out, they're up for adoption for a reason. Same genes as their parents, no amount of love will change their DNA.
