The older I get, the more I dislike explaining myself to anyone. I'm talking even casual interactions where they ask what you're up to, and my mind scrambles to come up with I-this, I-that, bla bla bla stories to keep up with the conversation. It's gotten to the point where if I see people I know I avoid them so it seems like I'm not being rude I just didn't see them. When it comes up at places like a store checkout I can give one word responses or just say nothing, and is the main reason I don't eat a restaurants. One time I was giving my order to the guy behind the counter at Chipotle, and he asked "How was your day?" I literally had no response, refused to engage in any kind of self-explanation or self-judgment. The previous events of the day weren't particularly good or bad, not very eventful, I was literally jsut drawing a blank and felt uncomfortable, even more so when he asked me again while paying, and I stared straight ahead in silence. I'm really nervous about going to the dentist next month, not for the procedure but being asked personal questions again and having assumptions made base don whatever i may have said before to get through the social interaction with him without appearing rude or being asked are you okay repeatedly.>but you're explaining yourself to me right now you hypocriteI'm just typing text onto a screen, not having to open my mouth and make sounds towards another human person in real time.No I am not telling you about my day, don't ask.
the denist is even worse because he will ask while he has his hands in your mouth. if you anger him he can so easily kill you if he wanted, anyway, just mindlessly say "it's been good" everytime i don't see what the issue is. they're not asking an actual question it's part of a niceness ritual they expect you to say you're doing good everytime they ask. "what are you up to?" is a difficult one though i'm sorry people ask you that.
>>85713626>>85713792It doesn't make me nervous or anxious. Just mildly fatigued. I don't like small talk and these "how was your day" talk/ I usually don't have anything to say, and so I have to come up with an answer on the spot. I have to think about what I did, or come up with an NPC response which doesn't come natural to me. But I don't actually care if I just say nothing. My usual response to "how was your day" is "I don't know"I just don't care to answer. I don't care to think about it. And if there was something I wanted to share, I would do without asking. I don't find this so called "ritual" "nice". It is disingenuous. I know they don't care how my day was. And I don't care how their day was and i'm not asking. I don't want to hear about mundane everyday nothing fluff and neither do theyJust stop caring. Answer "I don't know" or "haven't really thought about it". Make them your NPC automated responses>How's your day been?Don't know>Nice weather today!Yep>How are you?/HoweryeGrand/don't know, wasn't thinking about it/*thumbs up*>How was your day? Same as yesterday>and how was yesterday?Same as the day before yesterday>and how was before yesterday? Same as today
