I am an American man with 3/4 northern European ancestry and 1/4th Indian ancestry (from India).Last year a bum stumbled up to me and asked my nationality. Because I autistically interpreted that literally, I told him I'm American, because that's the only citizenship I hold. He then said that he thought I was Greek like him, and then he stumbled off disappointedly.
The surge of Indians on the internet and irl in the west has not been very good to me. Many people I encounter IRL will share Indian jokes with me, not knowing my ancestry. I don' really care; I judt dont like the awkwardness it causes when they find out. 10 years ago I barely heard anyone even mention Indians IRL, outside my family.
