Does anyone here not feel good for helping someone? Like if i ever do a good thing i do not tend to be happy or proud about it, just indifferent. I wasn't always like that, i used to be proud of being good. But now i still do good stuff but that feeling of happiness that usually comes with it is no longer there. Sometimes i suppress these feelings if they ever come after helping someone. But i am not sure if that's wise.
ogghhhhhhaaaa what a sexy man
>>85719115I used to feel good about helping others and doing good things, but then I realized that this feeling was just a covert narcissistic reaction, and was deeply problematic and suggests I was only performatively engaging in good behavior for greedy purposes. I still try to do good things and help people, but I try to make myself feel bad about it because it does mean I'm a selfish greedy piece of shit for it. It's tough, trying to authentically be a good person while, like, being a flawed human. But someday hopefully I'll get it right.

Most of the people around here are performatively good. They do good not for the sake of good, but for the sake of others.>but I try to make myself feel bad about it because it does mean I'm a selfish greedy piece of shit for it.There is no need to make yourself feel bad about it, just try to be indifferent.
>>85719115You're beginning to wear out. You can only put so much good into society, without receiving any in return, before you just get tired of it. The day came when some drunken broad was swaying and dancing, right next to the gates where a southbound locomotive was pulling about 300 cars and I just didn't give a fucking shit - all I did was pull out my phone, in case I got a funny video.
>>85719165>There is no need to make yourself feel bad about it, just try to be indifferent.I can't just be indifferent. If I'm not actively kind of beating myself up for selfishly doing good, I can't help myself but feel good for doing good and feel like it kind of makes me a good person and all that performative and immoral stuff
>>85719253Listen if you feel good that's okay, just try not to ruminate on the feeling for long and you will stop behaving this way.
Me when i bump a thread
>>85719115>not feel good for helping someone?yeah. i dont really feel anything. but i know others might feel better so i try to be nice anyway. what have i got to lose.
>>85720448That's my main motivator too. I don't do it for pride, i do it to make the lives of others better without waiting for anyone to bat me on the back and say "good boy".

>>85719115Yeah on the one hand but then on the other I realize I really shouldn't hate myself so the lasting effect's really good.
