Being nice to Indians is not how you get good results.

Their mentality is based on the caste system, but since there's no formal caste system in the West so they have to base their judgements off behavior and appearance. If you're nice to them and look plain they immediately assume you must lower on the hierarchy, because why would anyone be nice except out of fear and intimidation? This gives them free reign to take advantage of you in whatever way they're able, and they will feel very self-satisfied doing so. Accordingly if you're mean to them, dress flashy and carry yourself with pride they assume you're of a higher caste than them and quickly scurry to placate and appease you. It is always a mistake to let them feel "above" you, or even equal to you, unless you want to suffer.
