I've come to realize that most people are theists or atheists primarily based on personal temperament and not because they actually reasoned to their position or used valid inferencing.
>>85724730I thought everyone went through an atheist phase and eventually grew out of it
You could sort of say this about any belief
>>85724730Reason is also a product of temperament and is dependent on your experiences. If youre le smart enough you can abstract traits and disctinctions from minimal experience and draw inferences from them but youre still just some fag stuck on this rock coping in the end
>>85724730Explain the difference in theism between the nordic nations and United States then if the difference isn't material.
>>85724761That's true I guess. It's the same with politics, actually. Aren't the big five correlated with political stance? Now don't get me wrong, there are actual philosophers of religion out there who have good reasons for belief (or non-belief) in God and usually these come in the form of different types of deductive arguments. But the average person doesn't understand these types of arguments and to me it appears that whether a person believes or does not believe most depends on things like temperament, upbringing, and personal experiences, rather than through actual reasoning about the world and, you know, metaphysics, which the topic of God is a part of.
>>85724730>most peopleMost people are absolute braindead retards and operate only on "monkey see monkey do", as in they simply copy what everyone else around them is doing."Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that"
>>85724767Kant disagrees with you, Hume.
>>85724791Thats why 1 nigga came to that shit after eons
>>85724816Reasoning is completely independent of individual human experiences or emotions or the like. There is an objective science of reasoning called Logic. It's gives us the ability to actually know things about the world, including how to act in the world rationally.
>>85724845Everything you just said is only from prior niggas...reaching that and writing it down for you to reddit read through, through their experience and reflecting on it(which is also a form of experience)
>>85724777>Explain the difference in theism between the nordic nations and United States then if the difference isn't material.the more of a mutt you are the more you like rabbi yeshua
>>85724730And what is it that makes people Christian/Muslim/Jewish/Hindu/etc? Ill give you reason, if there's only one true god/religion, why is the one you believe in so dependent on your geography and ethnic background?
>>85724785how... profound.... it's almost like it's impossible to not think or do something that hasn't been thought or done before.
>>85724929But atheism is just as geographically dependent as theism. If you were born in the Soviet Union in 1951, you'd probably be an atheist. Non-belief is also determined by those types of factors. Anyway though, it simply does not follow that any religion is false just because of its geographical location. Not only is this view self-refuting since atheism or non-belief is also culturally and geographically relative, you could argue the same thing about morality, or how a culture views history or politics, or even science since many cultures at different points in time have had different and often clashing scientific theories. It would be absurd to conclude that there is no objectively correct form of science or history and possibly political governance just because these things have been culturally relative, and many would also say the same about morality. You can't logically infer that all religion is false because it appears culturally relative.
>>85724984>If you were born in the Soviet Union in 1951, you'd probably be an atheistMaybe, but if we accept this as the case how does this not further my point? Your religion is most strongly tied with your culture, so how am I supposed to accept that any of them are true? The devout mormon I spoke to this week speaks with the same conviction as a Muslim in Mecca. But both of them consider the other to be wrong.>many cultures at different points in time have had different and often clashing scientific theoriesThat is the point of standardizing a scientific method, to be able to reliably test hypotheses and get closer to the truth. How do you test which is real between Christianity and Islam?>many would also say the same about moralityYea and they would be right. Slavery wasn't considered immoral by a significant portion of the American population not 200 years ago, now we consider it appalling. There's almost certainly things we consider to not be immoral now that will be appalling to future generations.>how a culture views historyAnd it is pretty well known/agreed to that cultural remembrance of history is not completely true and is colored by ideology. >You can't logically infer that all religion is false because it appears culturally relative. You absolutely can because it is the only of these things that claims to show truth yet is untestable.
