The source of all modern woes is boredom. Boredom is a strong negative feeling that appears when you are wasting energy (calories). It is an evolved feeling in many organisms because wasting energy is a very bad idea. Many individuals of every species die from starvation (too little energy to keep living) and have died from starvation since life first appeared, making it a primary driver of evolution. It is especially evolved in humans, because humans are intelligent enough to have rational thinking instead of being driven entirely by feelings and instincts. Rationality allows humans to use their brain to override instincts and feelings, making humans almost unique in their ability to simply decide to spend an entire day doing absolutely nothing, causing boredom to settle in and force you to actually do something and stop wasting energy.Throughout human history, boredom has not been that big of an issue, because of a constant need for survival. Being preoccupied with survival every single day is a very good deterrent for boredom. However, in modern society, the need for survival has been almost completely eliminated. Food and water is easy to acquire. Because of this, boredom is very common. Some people dedicate their life to some craft or hobby, but many people simply do not know what to do to get rid of the constant feeling of boredom.This is the source of modern society's downfall. Boredom has fundamentally reshaped western culture into one that focuses entirely on fun i.e. cheap dopamine hits to alleviate boredom. This obsession with fun is the reason people aren't having children. People want to keep partying, going to concerts, playing video games, having sex, masturbating, gambling, drinking etc. forever. It is the source of why modern people are absolutely sex-obsessed to the point it's the only thing they think about, and why modern sexual behaviour is becoming more and more over the top and strange as people chase ever increasing levels of pleasure.
