The 4mb file size limit is a fucking humiliation ritual. I tried cutting up a 5 minute video into 30 second segments so I could upload them to /gif/, but I gave up because I could only compress them to about 8mb without fucking up the quality, and I really couldn't be bothered cutting them into even smaller segments. The 4mb file size is fucking ridiculous, it's like the admins are deliberately making this site as unusable as possible. Maybe if RapeApe spent less time posting slurs on twitter and more time making this site usable, 4chan's activity wouldn't be at record lows.

Familiarize yourself with ffmpeg and it's params. Either that or use something like Handbreak/Constrict if you're on Linux. Constrict is great. Sometimes it requires multiple "passes" to get the file down.

How do you expect 4chan to cover the increased storage costs when they're already struggling to pay to archive things for the cops?

Compression artifacts are your friend. There is no real you. You only exist inside the mind of those aware of your existence as a subjective model. What "you" believe about "yourself" is entirely non-real.

Possessive "its" doesn't use an apostrophe. The contraction "it is" does and it's the most common mistake made by autocorrect on modern devices. Its its it's its, it it's its.

Strictly speaking, simply knowing the parameters exist won't help you much if your goal is to optimize performance. That requires customization of the quantization tables and encoding process. Standard encoders are optimized to weigh motion above static element purity for example.

I think the file size limit is to prevent denial of service attacks. But I feel like that could be accomplished with a less strict limit.

Thanks for the reminder. I'm not being sarcastic btw, I actually appreciate it.

It used to be 2mb and was expanded to 4mb recently (~2023.) To be honest any limit is fine, you just need to adapt to it. It's better to set a practical limit any have users adapt rather than providing an opportunity for vandals to abuse.

It's one of the hardest things to learn. If you think about it, you really should have been taught in grade school. Can you remember them ever focusing upon this once per week for three years in grade school, for example? In the 1950s and prior they'd literally whip it into you with a cane or belt and mock you for being stupid (as a 7 year old) in front of the class, then force you to wear a dunce cap in the corner covered in bruises and lash marks.

Things sure have gone down hill today what with all those "safe spaces" and cat litter boxes for feline trannies.
