has anyone here grown up in a survivalist commune? or any commune/intentional community thats off the grid? what was it like? did you have contact with people outside of your commune? did you make friends, have family, lovers outside of this? do you still belong to it? if not, why did you leave/what forced you to leave? did you like living there? what was bad about it? if one had the resources, would you recommend that people do it?
commune, not really. but I knew a few people that grew up with whacko parents who lived in trailers with no power deep in the woods, living off the land. both of them really hated it. they thought gutting deer was disgusting and hated having to kill their pet chickens and grew up wishing they could just buy meat from walmart like normal people.
>>85841755what made them crazy?
>>85841869well according to one friend his drunkard dad kidnapped his mom one day and completely disappeared, leaving him and his brother to fend for themselves when they were like 10 years old. they were burning whole chickens without properly gutting them and drinking dirty creek water until they were sick and dying, and luckily CPS showed up to get them. my other friend said his dad smoked meth and molested him and his sisters.
>>85841732I've lived my life surviving and living off the land, out remote in the mountains. Not a commune though but still. It's pretty much all I know but I still enjoy it
>>85841986yeah that sounds depressing, sorry your acquaintances were abused.>>85842366how do you get internet? starlink? were you raised in this or did you choose to live like this?
>>85842396I have phone internet some company set up towers over the ridge when fracking was taking place years back. I'm totally off grid otherwise. I was born and raised into this life. I had the opportunity to leave it but I preferred the life I have here
>>85842432What do you eat; is it mostly game? Do you farm at all?
>>85842569Mostly hunting and trapping and foraging with a little from gardening and farming and the livestock I keep. Honesty though I could just get by on either way
>>85842366>>85842432>>85842580That is so cool. I look up to you.
>>85841732I grew up in a nudist commune. It wasn't quite "survivalist" because we could go into town for anything we needed, but we had offgrid energy and water but our only entertainment aside from what we made was an old radio and a TV set.Growing up it was alright because I was a kid and everything was neat but in retrospect I realize now I was bored beyond belief and had to always try to make my own fun because there wasn't shit to do. I left in high school because I was tired of the constant boredom and I could feel it making me dumber. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
How many turn to or are weird sex cults though?
