Any high-functioning autistic robots suffer from the unconscious accent and/or sound mimicry type of echolalia?I'm a very high-functioning aspie. I've lived in rural central North Carolina since I was three, so you would think I just have a typical soft southeastern accent similar to this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzDmRlkwN6YI've also been told I "sound British," or people seriously think I am British, even though I've never been to the UK.It's made me pretty nervous about how my own natural voice sounds. I read through my autism diagnosis by some children's therapy place at UNC in 2006, and one of the things they noted that stood out to me is that I "speak with very little vocal inflection," along with "He says things that are hard to tell if they are either incoherent noises or foreign jargon."https://voca.ro/1lMDrgr97Ung
>>85888290I don't have an unconscious accent but I sometimes get the urge to quote/mimic things I've heard, which is something I only ever do when I'm alone. I guess that's my echolalia. I do have the flat affect thing down, which is a combination of inheriting the genes of my dad's voice (which was a little monotone) and being teased when I was little. I ended up unconsciously suppressing my self-expression to avoid embarrassing myself, which backfired as well since I ended up sounding robotic.
>>85888290Lol I remember one time in elementary school a kid asked if I was British.
autism is not a thing and vocaroo spam belongs on >>>/soc/
>>85888290I'm Autistic and have a weird accent too. Mine sounds like a strong version of a typical Wisconsin accent, but my voice rises and falls a lot, and people say I sound foreign.>>85888562I do this a lot too. I repeat funny phrases a lot.
>>85888290Voice intonation is a learned behavior. It really comes in handy when dealing with smoothbrains. I've done it for so long, it comes naturally to me. My flat-sounding Sperg only comes out when I'm under major stress. Someone once said I sounded like a burned-out robot.
>>85889929BTW, I hope you've learned to look people in the eye, shake hands and do the other stupid shit that society insists on. It will make life VERY MUCH easier.
It's inevitable if you were raised on Harry Potter and Monty Python, that's why I try my damnest to mimic the (soon to be) late Terry Gilliam instead https://youtu.be/LaG_EiFX7a0?si=Dqo3KUn6UA763FiF
>>85889037>autism is not a thingTrue, and I say this as someone who would be quite thoroughly classified as autistic, and who doesn't fit into or care about society at all. It's just a way to lump intelligent nonconformists in with actual retards so that normies will ignore what we say. But then we entered this strange period of normies adopting autism as an easy-to-claim disability for pity victim points. So now anyone and everyone claims to be autistic.Shit's fake and gay.
>>85888290You don't sound British whatsoever.Psychologists love to make mountains out of molehills. Speaking "with little vocal inflection" is something you have in common with millions of other Americans. It's not a symptom of autism.Speaking as an Australian, you just sound like a young American.
