>>22436308Probably whining about project office/design/corporate roles rather than site based. As a contract manager in utilities I have a bag of PPE that cost about a grand (strict electrical/fire safety requirements) and I've only worn it once in the last year - the mud on my safety boots is from gardening - yet I dictate what the contractor and their subbies get paid. The site guys just avoid us like the plague, they think we're idiots and/or vindictive psychos.

I'm surprised this video has not made it's way to this thread:https://youtu.be/a0fkNdPiIL4?is=cN3_evdQbGPJYoZG

>>22442869You'll never entirely avoid either in any field but I'm content I'm not. I was pleased when my counterpart, the contractor's commercial manager, told me yesterday I was the fairest client he'd worked with in his fifteen years experience (he's moving jobs). I don't enjoy withholding payment or disallowing sums (some commercial people do though) and I take into consideration cash flow, good contractor relations and best outcome for the project when negotiating or challenging quotes and estimates. I don't like fighting over pennies and I don't like bullying. Shit rolls downhill and if I hurt the contractors cash flow that then goes on to hurt subbies and suppliers then it all becomes acrimonious and unpleasant. It's best we try to work together well and get good outcomes for all involved. That includes the guys getting their hands dirty doing site work.
>>22442898"PLUMBING CHAT, WITH LEWIS"
>>22443115Droll but as possibly the least sexy thread on /s/ right now I don't feel I'm really bringing down the quality, For transparency it's an energy infrastructure project >£1billion rather than plumbing chat. :)
