It's nice to see the amount of shows you've watched grow gradually just for yourself not for bragging purposes. The info I might want to look up on any given show is obviously available on google or some other place, but the point of a database or any special website is to have it all sorted neatly and for it to be readily available on any given work's page. I'm not saying MAL is the only place that can do this, I'm simply answering your question since you're curious what kind of info I'd need. It's nice to be able to open a single page and instantly learn the runtime info, the year any given show was released, who the VAs are and what the synopsis is. Oh, it also helps with watching order because it tells you what came after what. Again, it's obviously there on google too, but instead of having to type it up manually you can just see it there. As for ratings... I never base my opinion or make any decisions regarding any show depending on whether the review scores are high or low. I'm obviously aware that there are far too many retards out there. Yet I still am curious about the amount of hits and overall score anything has. Now what would you do differently personally?

MAL has turned into a cesspool of just normoids, that dont understand otaku culture and well the community itself. One of the reason is that MAL has become too mainstream. There a lot of databases out there filled with otakus to the brim and I wish I could recommend you some of them, but the problem is that the one I use are "local". What I mean by that is they are not in english. Yes I understand what you mean when you said that you want to "capture" the progress of the stuff you watched. I would personally do it just by saving a list on my pc of everything I watched (in excel and stuff) since its more for myself rather then for bragging and shit. I know this is completely retarded but I like it the old way.You are right about the convenience of the info availability and sadly MAL is the best site that is in english for these purposes..p.s I think MAL should adopt the search system from VNDB, probably on of the best databases I've seen. You can literally search for VN based on character designs in it. MAL's search system is just too primitive for something as vast as anime/manga.
