What compels a person to come to an anonymous imageboard and attempt to craft an identity for themselves, to stand out amongst a crowd who neither has nor needs an identity? One explanation could be that they are pathological attention seekers. While seeking attention can be a normal human behavior, excessive attention seeking may be due to a personality disorder and elicit negative responses from others who have no such need.

It suggests that person considers themselves and their need for validation more important than others, and may come across as self-centered, arrogant or narcissistic. It may be viewed as a weakness that elicits an instinctive negative response from people who don't have that weakness themselves. Additionally it might be seen as disruptive, insincere and tiresome if exaggerated drama is the means of obtaining the attention.
