That's probable but I don't think a super-rare case of self-hating preservation would withstand most modern problems like AI and social media. A narcissist already lives in a hostile world, people don't notice how smart he is, or how dumb he is, he needs attention and validation over how much of a different person he's become, there's only an elite few who will understand his problems, and even then, the few that would understand have to do so idiosyncratically. It's a hostile world.

With artificial intelligence and social media, it just makes the problem worse, and the hostility just seems less localized and more oppressive. I don't think someone's psyche would want to survive that, let alone could survive that.

I find intent to be incredibly hard to discern even from people who are incredibly articulate and precise. I think the barrier is why wars are waged and relationships are destroyed. body language tells you more of what a person is thinking, so yeah you understand intent without words. If artificial intelligence and infer intent perfectly through some kind of combination of machine learned body language, text, speech then perhaps that could be a step towards greater understanding if we choose to use it that way
