If you think about it, a person cannot really *be* a police officer. A police officer is really just a normal person playing the role of a police officer.
Someone can be like "I'm a firefighter that has fought over 10,000 fires so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to fires" but it still wouldn't be the case that the person *is* a firefighter. He is simply someone with a lot of experience in the abstract role of a firefighter.
When thinking about it this way, cops and firefighters don't even seem real any more, they seem cartoonish like in a children's book, and all of society feels like a bunch of wholesome chunguses working together like Richard Scarry's Busy Town or some shit like that
