Especially modern "therapy" that is so surface-level it just leaves you feeling even more frustrated and confused.
Psychologists are trying to map the psyche as if it was a deterministic system. It’s not. There is some truth to the predictive phenomenology, in that given certain background or traits, you can often predict how a person is likely to behave in specific situations. But it’s not the same as predicting how dominos will fall. There’s an irreducible uncertainty that we can’t model our way around.Theology often answers what psychology can’t.
That's not psychology. That's what the law of man prefers as psychology, heavily influenced by public persona,. It's more a religious framework. True psychology incorporates psychoanalysis, not random observation of behaviour during hospital stays.
>>16986524>Psychologists are trying to map the psyche as if it was a deterministic systemUh oh. It's another episode of retards not being able to distinguish between the psyche having a structure and behavior being deterministic.
>>16986534No, the founding axiom of Freud's theories is psychological determinism, that everything you do or think has a reason so you should look for repressed feelings and experiences.
>>16986576>Freud's theories You made a general statement about psychology.>everything you do or think has a reason so you should look for repressed feelings and experiences. This is probably true and it's not "determinism".
It's more like it's scientific but in unhelpful ways. Statistical might be a better word for it. They are going off real world data but the psyche is a very fluctuant thing so the science they're doing is like trying to catch smoke with your bare hands. Talk therapy is good if you don't have anyone in your life to talk to but most of their diagnoses are just shots in the dark that can't really be proven or refuted objectively. Only see a psychiatrist if you already know what kind of drugs you want because otherwise they're just gonna experiment with you giving you a bunch of random shit that might make you feel better or might make you feel significantly worse. They will all try to put you on SSRIs pretty much guaranteed because that's their go to method of securing their paycheck.
>>16986516I’ve met some very clever psychoanalysts who never managed to help anyone.
>>1698693580% of helping is done be the patient, 20 is guidance sad truth is most people can't be helped because they lack intellect, they really are mostly automatonsit's not in race that we're so unequal, it's in intellect that some (most) people are fundamentally less human
>>16986998>because they lack intellectThen why does "therapy" only seem effective for midwits with no real issues?
Psychology by itself isn't psuedoscientific. What would be pseudoscientific would be to call psychological *treatments* effective without any empirical evidence. The same randomized and controlled experiments that test for the effectiveness of any medical treatment apply to the methods of psychologists. Their methods may not be motivated by the laws of nature like the physical sciences, but they are still science.
>>16987000easy to program people, simpletons, not even midwitsit's not therapy taking place in those cases
>>16986516The human brain is already relatively well understood. You receive input through your 5 senses, this causes a chain reaction of neurons firing eventually leading to some output in your brain stem resulting in muscles contracting around your body. Your neurons get updated throughout your life via some local learning alogrithm that likely approximates backpropogation.Trying to model subjective experience (ie psychology) is schizophrenia and not science
>>16987018Modern psychology focuses on behaviors, not subjective experience. A lot of human behaviors don't have some kind of extremely simple evolutionary explanation like you are suggesting.

>>16986516Psychology as a whole is barely even a science. But, many approaches from psychology have reliably formed the foundation of verifiable observations of behaviour vis-à-vis the nervous system, endocrine system, and other biological functions. Some of these approaches date back to Ancient Greek philosophy, with hypotheses being verified nowadays even at the molecular level. At the very least it can be said that certain individuals were "on the right track", and were able to use a certain way of interpreting human behaviour to generate valid hypotheses. However, they are vastly outnumbered by retard faggots who built their entire careers out of pulling shit out of their wretched assholes. Among them, Freud is the undisputed king.
Psychology is vert important, Like everything else though, not a solved science. The issue is that people with money just buy the best psychology and use it to make money rather than help people. And the world does not tend to reward psychologists with lots of money. Psychology is kinda dangerous to existing power structures so is monitored very carefully. In regards to therapy, most people could benefit from someone they can talk to without judgement who they can get their stresses and frustrations out. The issue being that people you tell your deepest thoughts who are close friends, could potentially use them against you. Women seem to be very good at convincing you tell them stuff and then using them against you when they are pissed off.
>>16987000because therapy serves the purpose of making the patient not upsetty at material circumstance and societal injustice and so onthat's why it works better for middle managers than for blue collar workers
