How come we don't start teaching chemistry in elementary school? Orgo chem has no math at all and pushing electrons and resonance is extremely intuitive and from that the behavior of water starts making a lot more sense. Valence electrons are another simple concept that makes everything from metallurgy you see in shop to how the northern lights work make sense. I memorized a lot of shit as a kid, it would have been a shit ton more productive to memorized this stuff. Michaelis-Menten based kinetics and understanding Hb sigmoid selectivity also makes calculus much more intuitive. I blew through calc thanks to doing all my chem first. Orgo and biochem have a lot of shape based puzzles I could have done when I was twelve, why the fuck was I memorizing elements and randomly facts that were wrong? I still look at the table even now.
>>16988512Because half the teachers don't know that shit.
>>16988512pushing electrons is a proxy for underlying quantum phenomena which is not conceptual but largely math. you can pass ochem 1 and 2 just knowing patterns of arrow pushing but that seems like mostly a pedagogical issue
>>16988512High school chemistry teachers barely know chemistry
>>16988512Because children are retarded. Furthermore nobody smart wants to be a teacher in the West because people have been conditioned to hate teachers and they don't get paid properly.
>>16988524That's what I am saying, it makes math easier because you have real world examples of the math behaving in a logical tangible way. Oil floating on water makes intuitive sense when you know this stuff, its about as hard as doing a crossword puzzle in all honesty and when you see the math you can think back to the tangible physical processes describes by chemistry approximations. I don't think it is any shock that the prague school that produced Von Neumann and all those other nobel laureates taught chemistry young >>16988517Its pretty simple shit
>>16988512org chem is literally rote memorization: the "science"kids would hate it and for a good reason
>>16989031Arrow pushing is literally entirely intuitive? The fact that name reactions exist is incidental, the underlying mechanisms all follow basic principals and can be figured out as long as you have a basic understanding of them. As OP said, its certainly better than making kids memorise the fucking periodic table.
>>16989068nobody memorizes the table
>>16988512Because we don't need more 14 year olds cooking up meth./ThreadNext question.
>>16989075Especially not if they're going to do it poorly and make substandard meth.meth. Get the fuck out with that shit. Meth really went downhill since the eph chain prereqs got banned.
>>16988512organic chemistry is literally all made up nonsense.
>>16988512>How come we don't start teaching chemistry in elementary school?for what fucking purpose
