The University of Connecticut admitted a girl on an academic scholarship who was illiterate even though she was a top honors student at her high school. Both of her parents were illegal aliens with no English skills despite being in the country for several decades. On one hand, the high school knew and supported what she had been doing to avoid becoming literate. On the other, she knew she was gaming the system. That she was able to graduate with honors and that a top university gave her an academic scholarship makes you wonder about the millions of less egregious cases happening where qualified students are passed over for marginal students that the system favors.

The point of education hasn't been to teach for almost 100 years now, it's to condition behaviour for having the youth prepared to be good little wageslaves, and waste their time so their incapable of doing anything else, it's basically behavioural babysitting with grade 2 arithmetic and political indoctrination sprinkled on top. Seconding that. Aside from the social bullshit, school in US just teaches the subjects. You're free to pursue anything you want on your own time, most HS' have a library. And most cities have a public library that is free for registered students, down to the 5th or 6th year usually.

You are ignorant. No Child Left Behind has been overturned since the mid-2010s. The youth of today were raised under its replacement law. Children of NCLB are in their late 20s and beyond now and are the ones whose intelligence is being used as the standard to claim that the newer generations are falling behind.

No Child Left Behind is being ignorantly blamed for failures it didn't commit, when in fact its operation was the exact opposite of today's education laws, prioritizing stringent competency standards measured according to Standardized Testing.
