Newton's first law demands it. No continuous restoring force means the first deviation from equilibrium produces a tangent departure and the wave ceases to exist as a wave. The sinusoidal path is itself direct empirical evidence that a restoring force is continuously operating, which means the causal question isn't optional philosophical speculation, it's physically mandatory.The entire wave mechanics formalism is downstream of that restoring force existing, so you can't use wave mechanics to dismiss the question about what produces the restoring force without arguing in a circle. The math presupposes the mechanism without explaining it.
I understand quantum mechanics tho, and directly address the question, quantum mechanics behaves the way it does because of competing complex phase potentials, superposition is the range about the origin which a wave particle is oscillating. Observation by real-real phase locked instruments/observers forces the superposition to resolve into an apparent location and apparent trajectory, but that's not its actual location and trajectory 75% the time, because 75% of the time, in absolute objective universal time, the observed is a projection of it being in the other 3 phasesThat's also why, at great cosmic scales, 75% of the "absolute mass" of the universe is missing, because it's not in our observable real real phaselocked window of observation
