Why is 3/3 equal to 1?Ok, so 1/3 is 0.33333 forever. 2/3 is 0.6666 forever. So, if that's the case, why is 3/3=1 and not 0.99999 forever? Where does the last little bit get added to 3/3 to have it equal 1?

If there were, you could sketch it out, but you can't sketch it out, because any number you try to construct is necessarily larger than the remainder, meaning the remainder must be zero and any other understanding leads to a contradiction. OK i stumbled across this problem as well! before and was confused, but it does make sense when you peice it together: 1/3 = 0.3333333 and that 3 NEVER stops so when u add all 3 you get 0.9999999999..... and here we dont "approximate" it and asssume due to negligible difference its 1. No instead it literally is exactly 1 and thats because the 9 NEVER STOPS there is no last 9 when someone says " but what about the missing 0.00000000001? ur thinking of a finite decimal like how 0.99999 has 5 9s and 1 minus it is 0.00001 so yes, if the decimal stops, there IS A GAP but 0.99999999999 does NOT STOP. there is no final digit where u would say after this the missing piece is 0.0001 no it never ends the missing peice just keeps getting smaller with infinitely many 9s, the gap is smaller than any positive number you can name. In real math thats just 0. Another proof let x = 0.9999999...... multiply by 10 its 10x = 9.999999999999999999999999 now subtract 10x -x = 9.9999... - 0.9999. so it cancels to 9x = 9 so x =1 therefore the correct explanation is 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = 1 If u still dont understand you have to know that there has to be a possitive gap or missing piece for it to not be 1 right? but there is none, also nice anime girl pic.
