This is all possible whether you are religious or not because if you are then you probably believe in a soul and if you aren't then you must believe that a human being is essentially the sum of their parts, and those parts are made of matter and energy that never gets destroyed. Even the heat death of the universe isn't a guaranteed end when you consider that it's a kind of universal symmetry and leading scientific theories assume symmetry was broken several times during the early phase of our current universe.
